Will Dell Buy Palm?

dell.jpgDell officially removed the Axim X51 products off its website and stopped selling them April 5. The Axim Pocket PC was first introduced back in 2002. With the discontinued Axim PDA computers, there is a possibility that the Dell may be preparing to bring a smartphone to the cellular market by possibly buying Palm. Dell refuses to discuss such a rumor. According to Jack Gold, an analyst at J. • Palm has identified a bug that causes the Treo 680 to lose battery life quickly. Apparently, the Treo 680’s camera is the culprit, draining the battery even when the camera is in stand-by mode. Palm is offering a fix for this problem, and is recommending that all Treo 680 users download the update to fix this issue. The updated software can be downloaded from the Palm Support page of their website, located at http://www.palm.com/us/support/downloads/.

  • Palm Inc. and Globe Telecom today announced that the Treo 860 a quad-band world smartphone, will now be available to consumers in the Philippines. Palm is reaching out and targeting rapidly growing smartphone and feature-phone markets, so we can probably expect the Treo devices to be made available in other new countries as well. Market research firm In-Stat estimates that 25 percent of all wireless handsets worldwide will be smartphones by 2011, so there is clearly a need for more smartphone availability in several areas of the world.
