By now you certainly know that AT&T has decided to sue Verizon Wireless after Big Red aired all those commercials from its “There’s a Map for That” campaign. AT&T is definitely pissed off as Verizon is making a mockery of AT&T’s 3G network. AT&T alleges that Verizon is falsely advertising the capabilities of their 3G networks and consumers get the impression that AT&T lacks any services in those areas on the maps where 3G connectivity is not available.
So what does AT&T do to defend itself? It brings its EDGE network in:
With both 3G and EDGE coverage, customers can access the Internet, send e-mail, surf the Web, stream music, download videos, send photos, text, talk and more. The only difference - with some data applications, 3G is faster than EDGE.
Sure AT&T’s EDGE network is definitely comparable with Verizon’s low-end EV-DO Rev. A network but that’s not really what AT&T should tell its customers right now. What they want to hear is that AT&T’s 3G network is going to get even better. Which means no more dropped calls, better coverage, and all the web surfing at 3G speeds they want. And while we’re at it, Verizon should also upgrade its 3G network to LTE as fast as possible.

Samsung has announced its own open mobile platform the other day, bada, and now we have pictures of the first bada phone available. Samsung intends to reveal everything about bada at some point next month in December and that’s probably when we’re going to see the first bada phone made official too. The special event hosted by Samsung in London should also bring the bada SDK to developers but we’ll tell you more about it next month. For now we only have this leaked picture of the first bada phone so we’ll be looking forward to see some leaked specs and features too. What do you say, Samsung?

Motorola has a hot phone for Chinese customers too. The MT710 is a handset meant to deal with China Mobile’s Android-based Open Mobile Systen. This OPhone will offer a 3.7-inch 854 x 480 touchscreen display and TD-SDCDMA support and that’s about all we know about this Motorola OPhone. It looks like the MT710 is the Chinese version of the Droid and people say it’s going to lack keyboard support. They also say that Motorola will launch seven Android phones next year which means that the Droid-like MT710 is just the first one of them.

One of the many phones that NTT Docomo is releasing this winter is the Fujitsu F-04B Separate Kentai, a phone that has the unique ability to split its keyboard from its display. The keyboard and display are synced wirelessly via Bluetooth, and I can imagine that will come in handy for all sorts of applications.
I have recently learned that the user can also attach a 854 x 480 projector in place of a keyboard. So, a detachable keyboard and a pico projector? What could be better? How about a 12.2 megapixel camera?
There is no word of price or availability, but it will probably be a Japan-only release.

TomTom has recently updated their iPhone app, and has made some welcome changes.
They have finally added text-to-speech (which is usually a staple amongst GPS devices) as well as graphic lane guidance (the feature that gives the user a display of highway intersections). There is also a help menu that offers a shortcut to emergency numbers and directions to the nearest emergency services. The update also includes a free map update and even a safety camera database update. Yes, the user will be able to receive a warning when approaching speed limit cams.
According to my source, this update is pending approval. It will be free for those who already have the TomTom app, but it will cost everybody else about $99.

The Pixi is supposed to be official this Sunday but it looks like the phone has already been spotted at certain Walmart locations. The Pixi is reported to have a $400 price tag at certain stores in Tennessee although that hasn’t been confirmed yet. In fact the Pixi hasn’t been spotted in Walmart’s system yet which means the phone is not available for purchase yet.
Will the Pixi be a hit phone or will it have to stay in the shadows of other smartphones like the Droid this winter? Will you buy a Pixi in the near future?

Strangely enough, one of the latest LG cellphones has been recently seen on the Ukrainian market for the first time, instead of any other country in the world… Anyhow, the LG LG KM555E will feature a big touch sensitive screen and a resolution at 240×400 pixels.

The exact release date and price details are not known so far, and rumours mention a possible 3.5mm jack for the multimedia specs of the LG KM555E.
