Flying Without Fear iPhone app

For those who are afraid of flying, iPhone has a solution with a Flying without Fear course. This app is made to help the user face their acrophobia with frequently asked questions, an explanation of the flight process, as well as relaxation exercises.

Whoopi Goldberg endorses this app, who says that it cured her. The app itself is said to have a whopping 98 percent success rate which just seems way too high. Anyway, it is available for $4.99 at the App Store, along with the nice bonus of 2,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles.

T-Mobile, get…less?

Yes, T-Mobile was down for a little while this morning, but not to fear, for their “rapid response teams have been mobilized to restore service as quickly as possible”.

This was a statement made several hours ago, and it would appear that everything has been restored. According to the company, only 5 percent of users were affected by this outage. However, New York was quite heavily affected, which makes the percentile seem a little small.

Everyone have their Sidekick data back? I’m kidding, seriously.

  • A beta version of Opera Mobile 10 has just been released exclusively for Symbian powered smartphones. This new version has a couple of very enticing new features with the most highly sought after one being the fact that it is 50% faster than version Symbian versions.

    Additionally, the version 10 beta adds tabbed browsing and a “speed dial” page similar to the one found as the default page in Google’s Chrome.

    You can get the Opera Mobile 10 beta here.

    AT&T has just announced their intentions to launch a whole slew of new features on November 8th. The first is an all new voicemail-to-text service which will, of course, change your voicemails into text messages making it easier for you to catch that number or name.

    Second of all AT&T is planning to launch their Nation with Canada plans which will allow you customers to make calls between Canada and the US with no long distance charges.

    And last but not least they will be launching 3 new channels for their Mobile TV service which we have little to no details about. Luckily, they will be dropping the base cost of the service from $15 to $9.99 and the unlimited service from $30 to $24.99.

    Following the plan of Rogers to lower the price of BlackBerry Bold 9700 that was announced yesterday, they added a more discounts to other BlackBerry models.

    - BlackBerry Bold now costs $100 with a 3-year contract;
    - BlackBerry Curve 8900 is priced a $80 also with a 3-year contract;
    - and the BlackBerry Curve 8250 costs only $50 after signing the 3-year contract;

    As you can see Rogers is doing good prices, that is, if you become their client for 3 years.

    According to a Swedish manufacturer of carrying cases for cellphones and smartphones, also known as Krusell, the number 1 on the list of “sold mobile phones” is the iPhone - no surprise here. As for the second, we’ve got the Nokia XpressMusic, and on third place the HTC Touch HD.

    Don’t forget to take in consideration that this list is based on the number of cases ordered from Krusell during the month of October 2009. It’s not an official worldwide list or anything of that sort.

    1. (1) Apple iPhone 3G
    2. (2) Nokia 5800 XpressMusic
    3. (-) HTC Touch HD
    4. (5) Nokia 3109/3110 Evolve
    5. (9) Nokia 6700
    6. (10) Samsung B2100
    7. (3) Nokia N97
    8. (4) Nokia 6303 Classic
    9. (6) Nokia E51
    10. (7) Nokia 6300/6300i/6301

    () = Last month’s position.

    Ulf Sandberg from Krusell, comments:

    It is also fascinating to see the mix of new and old phones. Nokia 6300-series was launched by Krusell in March 2007 and is still going strong.

    Reports have surfaced that the highly anticipated HTC HD2 is to be available soon in both the European and Asian markets.

    Additionally, HTC has said that the Windows Mobile powered device will be making its way onto North American shelves sometime in early 2010. They didn’t say an exact carrier but they did let us know that it would be “a major US” one.

  • Samsung SCH-W920

    Samsung’s new mobile, the SCH-W920, looks a lot like those old-school “wireless” phones from the eighties with the big antenna, only it doesn’t have an over-sized cradle to rest it on.

    However, I guarantee your old cordless phone for the landline never had video calling capability, digital music player, a phonebook with 3,000 entries, a 3 megapixel camera, plus Bluetooth. The SCH-W920 will be available in black or white for a price of $425.

  • Sony Ericsson has recently presented a new cellphone strangely named Kurara, which is basically a touchscreen with Symbian S60 as the operative system.

    In terms of features there isn’t much information available, the device will have a 3.5-inch AMOLED Touchscreen display, and one of the best parts is certainly the 8.1-megapixel with LED Flash. Unfortunately those are all the details we have so far, but as soon as we get more news on the Sony Ericsson Kurara you’ll be the first to know.

  • Hot news for the two giants of the US that fight for a bigger share on the mobile telecommunications market, and I’m talking about AT&T and Verizon.

    In this case it was AT&T that sued Verizon and the reason is pretty simple: a misleading advertising campaign, which is named “There’s a Map for that” and is actually a joke related to an AT&T campaign called “There’s an App for That”.

    The misleading information is related to a map made by Verizon, in which shows that AT&T doesn’t have much network coverage. But the only detail they forgot to mention, is that they are only counting the 3G network and not EDGE network, and that’s why the AT&T map is full of blank spaces, which could lead to customers having bad ideas…

    Here’s an interesting iPhone app that will let you help out with other apps. This is Chorus, an App Store app that will aid in recommending apps to fit the user’s needs.

    Unlike the Apple’s native App Store app, this doesn’t have a “top” list based on overall downloads. Chorus is designed to work in chorus with apps that have been recommended by other Chorus users.

    Despite originally being thought to be hitting Rogers on October 26th, the carrier has just come around now to offer the BlackBerry Bold 9700 for $299.99 with a 3-year contract. Of course, if you want to pick it up with no plan you have the option to shell out $599.99.

    Now we just have to wait until TELUS and Bell put the device up for sale and we’ll be good.
