Remember that Modu phone concept we talked about a while ago? Well it seems that this do-it-yourself phone is finally going to be launched and Israel is going to be the first country where Modu cell phones will be sold.
It looks like Modu phones will be on sale on July 22 and it will cost around $130. For now only one Jacket will be available but we’re confident that more will follow if this goes well. What do you say? Would you get a Modu phone instead of a hot new smartphone?

The phone in the picture here is inspired from those Red K6 public telephones from London. Sure it’s not as good looking but you’ll always be able to tell its story to those friends of yours that keep asking you about your ugly handset. The phone is called the London Calling Mobile Phone and comes with decent features like LCD color screen, tri-band GSM connectivity, SMS and MMS support, custom British ringtones like “Rule Britannia” or “God Save the Queen” and a price tag of only $141. What do you say? Is it worth it?

It’s not every day that we see a weird looking phone like the one in the picture here so we definitely have to share it with you. The DYA concept phone comes with some interesting features like round bubble-buttons and a weird screen which slides diagonally. While we can definitely understand the way that the buttons are arranged in order for you to use them even without looking at the phone, we can’t understand how we’d grow to love that triangle-shaped screen. Would you purchase a DYA phone if it was available today?

I’m sure this is a feature some of you have seriously considered at least once. But would actually use a cigarette lighter phone? The phone in the picture here comes with a cigarette lighter but we doubt it’s the real thing. If you’re having any safety questions then you should know that the lighter is located on the back of the SB6309 and it comes with a protective cover. Simply slide it and light up your next cigarette.
Or you could choose a smartphone instead and quit smoking. I certainly hope that nobody will actually consider creating such a phone. But just in case this proves to be more than a joke, we’ll be ready to offer you all the hidden details. In case you stumble upon the official site of the phone you should also be aware of the fact that it could potentially harm your PC. The world malware has been used more than once!

Is Dell going to launch a smartphone soon or not? The company is definitely working on at least a model but nobody is willing to comment on the future Dell smartphones. At least nobody is revealing anything in particular. Ron Garriques, Dell’s consumer division vice president and former head of Motorola’s mobile devices unit told analysts that Dell is willing to “work with the top three to four” carriers “and see what their needs are” In other words, he is confirming that Dell smartphones are going to happen without leaking anything in particular. He also said that Dell would launch phones in the USA, Europe and Asia but that’s only a natural thing to consider given his background in the business. Every cell phone manufacturer out there is trying to sell its handsets in as many countries as possible so why wouldn’t Dell do the same?
So what do you think folks? Is anyone really interested in getting a Dell smartphone?

This time it’s on folks! Special iPhones are being manufactured for the Chinese market as we speak. By special we mean that the Chinese iPhones will officially not have any support for WiFi connectivity.
Foxconn is making the Chinese iPhone 3G and people say the phones lack an actual WiFi module. So it looks like Apple will not software lock the feature after all. By removing the module there’s no risk that some hackers will find a way to reactivate that WiFi feature.
Should we assume that Apple is ready to sell the WiFi-less iPhone 3G in China? Has the official agreement been signed?

Do you fly too much? Is it work-related or do you do it for fun? Well if you feel the need to surf the Internet while flying to your next destination you should check Aircell’s offers available for selected Virgin America, AirTran, Delta and America Airlines flights.
Aircell has announced two new Gogo plans for its customers: the Flight Pass for short trips and the 24-Hour Pass for those of you that fly across the ocean and back a lot.
The Flight Pass will cost you $5.95 for 90 minutes of in-flight WiFi connectivity while the 24-Hour Pass will cost $12.95. If you happen to fly almost daily then there’s a 30-day unlimited pass available for $49.95. I guess that at least some flight attendants will consider buying some cheap netbooks and getting this later plan for those interminable flights. After all why not surf the web while everyone else is sleeping?

Here’s some disturbing piece of news or better yet, ab unconfirmed rumor. It looks like BlackBerry owners in the UAE have received a performance enhancement patch from Etisalat, their official carrier. Said patch is apparently something else! It’s a spyware that will ultimately give Etisalat access to its customers’ messages and maybe more. Well that’s not nice now, is it?
Like I said, there’s nothing official so far but Etisalat customers have noticed reduced performance and battery life in their phones which was weird considering that the patch should have improved the overall performance. According to Nigel Gourlay the patch originates from a surveillance company, the SS8, and it can be activated at any time Etisalat chooses to. Besides text messages, the spyware can also monitor emails. Fortunately this whole surveillance thing can’t be handled by Etisalat’s network just yet. It looks like a 100,000 BlackBerry phones trying to connect to the registration server for the phone caused the battery and performance failure and thus the potential spyware was discovered. If you own an Etisalat Berry you should get rid of that patch somehow as you definitely deserve your privacy. What will Etisalat have to say about all this?

The iPhone 3GS has been out for almost a month now and we already have the first gold version of it. The Diamond Rose Gold iPhone 3GS is a 18 carat solid rose gold phone designed entirely by hand. Four craftsman have been working on it in Liverpool, UK and I must say that another masterpiece has been created. Sure the average Joe will rather buy a house, instead of paying £21,995 for a phone, but this handset is marvelous. Besides the regular iPhone 3GS features, this baby comes with 150 added grams of solid rose gold and 53 pink diamonds. What’s not to like about it except for the price? Oh and just in case you do buy this iPhone 3GS, make sure you also invest some of your money in a MobileMe account. Just in case the phone gets lost or stolen!

I’m sure you are already aware that Telus has decided to bring the BlackBerry Tour, the HTC Snap and the Touch Pro2 to its Canadians customers. I’m glad to tell you folks that the first smartphone has arrived. The Snap and the Touch Pro2 are a bit late but definitely still coming.
The Tour will cost you $229.99 with a 3-year contract or $599.99 if you decide to get it off contract. The HTC Snap and the Touch Pro2 are coming on July 15 and 21, respectively. We’ll be patiently waiting for officially official pricing details so stay tuned!

The S-Vision phone in the picture here is still a concept. And like most concept phones these days it’s trying to impress the audience. So what does this handset do besides taking calls and running some applications? The S-Vision doubles as a projector phone as it comes with a special swiveling lens on the side. The phone can be used for presentations on the go and we presume it comes with plenty of smartphone-like features and most importantly a great battery to support all that. When will such a phone be available? You’ll be among the first ones to know!

What’s Modu you dare ask? Well it’s a modular handset jacket system which was unveiled sometime last year. How does it work? Well you basically have your Modu phone which can be inserted into different jackets. Imagine that your current phone case would come with buttons and a screen. Wouldn’t that be cool? That’s how a Modu jacket acts for a Modu phone!
It looks like these Modu phones will be available sometime soon in Southeast Asia. There are no precise release dates and we have no prices yet but we’ll keep you posted.

Once again we announce that the iPhone will be available in China at some point. To tell you the truth, this is getting a little bit annoying. Every carrier in China wants the phone probably, every Chinese subscriber would consider buying one eventually and Apple is probably dying to enter that market. So what’s the problem people? Why can’t you get along and launch the phone already?
It looks that the first Chinese iPhone will be an almost regular GSM iPhone and when we say almost we mean that it will lack WiFi support. A WiFi-less iPhone is something we talked about a long while ago. This time it seems that, for some reason, the Chinese government doesn’t want phones capable of WiFi connectivity so Apple will have to “cancel the WiFi function without changing other components.” In other words, smart Chinese iPhone users will have WiFi in their iPhones right?
So when will Apple and China Unicom launch the first iPhone in China?

Rogers is keeping up with the growing needs of its Internet-surfing customers. The company has announced its 50Mbps DOCSIS 3.0-based service. That means that not only Comcast’s customers can enjoy fast internet in the USA but also Canadians can now get the same service. Unfortunately for Rogers’ customers the initial roll out will cover a limited area, the Greater Toronto Area. Other regions will get the new service in the following months but we have really no clear information on what markets will receive it.
You will need new gear to get that DOCSIS 3.0 service running. Rogers will launch its first 802.11n modem, which will be available for free for the first 50 people signing up for the service. After that the N Gateway, that’s what they call it, will cost $200.

Have you decided where to purchase your BlackBerry Tour from? Will you get it from Verizon or Sprint? Or are you going to get it from Telus or Bell? What if you could buy it from Best Buy instead? Would you be interested?
Well good news Canadians! Best Buy Canada has the Tour on sale now. The Tour is available for $229 so you should definitely get it since it is $20 cheaper than what Telus is going to charge for it. We’ll be waiting now to see Best Buy sell the Tour for $20 less than Verizon’s or Sprint’s current price in the USA! Think that’s going to happen any time soon?

The GSM Palm Pre is closing in and Europeans will finally be able to purchase it. Spanish carrier Movistar will launch the new Palm phone from the looks of this press photo. Considering that Movistar is owned by Telefonica, and Telefonica signed an exclusivity agreement with Palm, we were expecting it to launch the Pre in Spain, just like O2 will launch it in the UK. Let’s home that the phone will be available sooner rather than later. The press release says that:
Palm Pre is scheduled to be available initially in the UK, Ireland and Germany exclusively on the O2 network, and in Spain exclusively on the Movistar network, in time for the holidays.
What does that “in time for the holidays” mean actually? We’ll be looking forward for some prices and some clear release dates and we’ll get back to you once we get them
