Bell Starts Selling the Palm Pre

That’s right Bell customers, you should be happy to know that Bell is ready to sell a Palm Pre to you. In fact the carrier has a new ad which should convince you to pre-order a Pre right away. And in case you feel like you’ve seen that particular ad before then you probably have. Others did it before and you might have heard about the phone in question. People like to call it the iPhone. Don’t get me wrong there! The Pre is definitely a great phone, only it hasn’t risen to everyone expectations. And it hasn’t been able to comfortably fight against the iPhone just yet. But what do you think Bell customers? Are you going to purchase your Pre soon?

It’s not every day that we hear about new Linux phones so we definitely should check them out. Panasonic and NEC seem not to care about Android, Windows Mobile or Symbian OS that much. They seem to prefer LiMo instead. In fact they love it so much that they have announced a daring project which involves creating nine new Linux phones. KDDI and Immersion Corp will work on those phones but LiMo is also hoping for other important manufacturers to be impressed by the initiative. What about you? Would you buy a cheaper touchscreen smartphone running on Linux? Can’t wait to see when these new phones will be officially unveiled.

AT&T Upcoming Handsets Revealed

Remember that Sprint leaked document we showed you yesterday? Among those we couldn’t help but notice the BlackBerry 9700, the HTC Tilt 2 and the Tilt 2 without a camera, that elusive Garmin Nuvifone G60, the HTC Pure aka Snap and plenty of others. Samsung phones, Pantech and Nokia phones are also coming soon, so if you’re rooting for AT&T then sit nicely and wait. Some amazing phones are heading your way.

We have been waiting for the OPhone from Lenovo for a while now and it seems the handset is now ready to hit the stores. The O1 Android phone will be available in China and China Mobile is the designated carrier. We’ll be waiting for more details about this hot 3G phone and we’re looking forward to see it arrive in other markets. From the screenshot here the O1 looks like a worthy iPhone adversary but the jury is still out on this one.

This is the true story of how T-Mobile UK has been able to sell iPhone 3G units despite the official Apple partner in the UK is O2. And O2 exclusivity deal will expire in September if not later.

T-Mobile has been offering iPhone 3G units to its most exclusive clientele. The company apparently has been selling up to 150 phones a week to those customers that have contracts of at least £75 per month. T-Mobile is basically a reseller that offers SIM-free iPhones as an incentive method for its high-roller customers. That means T-Mobile UK isn’t doing anything illegal. Immoral, sure, but we’re living some rough economic times.

When will T-Mobile start selling that hot new iPhone 3GS? Maybe sometime in October?

Canadians interested in the iPhone 3GS will be very happy to know that Rogers and Fido will continue their promotion through September 16. The discounts will still be available and, most importantly, that 6GB data plan is still going to be available for $30. You have about six weeks to take advantage of the deal as September 15 is the last day when the deal will be available.

What nobody believed possible anymore seems to have happened. Microsoft and Yahoo have signed a search partnership today. That means Microsoft has gotten a 10-year license to use Yahoo’s search technologies and integrate Yahoo in its own search engine, Bing. And Yahoo will get to play with advertising for both parties involved since it will be the “exclusive worldwide relationship sales force for both companies’ premium search advertisers”. We’ll have to wait and see what this means for the mobile business since the deal is subject to regulatory review which will be completed by early 2010. What do you think Google has to say about this Yahoo and Microsoft affair?

Novatel has announced a new MiFi router, the 2372, which will work perfectly anywhere in North America. The router will offer you 7.2Mbps HSDPA connectivity for up to five devices. Besides GPRS/EDGE/UMTS/HSPA connectivity the router will bring you GPS and microSD card support, although you’re probably going to get it for that 3G-sharing feature. There aren’t any pricing details just yet but I’m sure some North American carriers are already thinking about subsidizing the Mifi 2372 so it’s only a matter of time until those prices will be available.

If you’re a Rogers Wireless subscriber then you should know that the carrier is getting ready to launch its impressive 21Mbps HSPA+ network. Rogers will increase download speeds starting this August in the Greater Toronto Area. Other cities in Canada will see similar speed bumps “quickly over the coming months.” While Canadians will enjoy this significant speed increase from 7.2Mbps to 21Mpbs, AT&T customers will have to wait some more until LTE will be available since AT&T will not be launching a HSPA+ network. So, Rogers customers, let us know how the upgrade is working out for you!

The Telenor Group and Huawei have signed a Global Master Agreement for selling mobile broadband modems. According to the deal, Huawei will provide 1.2 million mobile modems in the following year to Telenor. And Telenor will sell them through 13 operating companies in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Hungary, Serbia, Montenegro, Russia, Ukraine, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Thailand and Malaysia. Huawei is certainly an expert when it comes to mobile broadband modems and chances are you’ve already used at least one of their devices. By February 2009 the company has shipped over 30 million mobile broadband units for 235 operators in 115 countries. What mobile broadband modem are you currently using?

If you’re looking for a Palm Pre in Canada then it looks like Bell is the carrier to go to. We have just heard that Bell will be the exclusive Bell carrier for a six-month period. In case you don’t exactly want to become a Bell customer then you’ll have to wait a short while until everyone else will get the Pre too. It’s funny how this six months exclusive keeps popping up. Sprint was rumored to have a similar agreement with Palm but Dan Hesse, Sprint’s CEO, denied everything. Will Bell deny the six-month exclusivity too?

Those of you interested in an HTC Touch Pro2 smartphone from Telus, should check Best Buy instead. Best Buy Canada has the handset for sale and you can get the Touch Pro2 for just $249.99 CAD with a 3-year contract. The best part of the deal here is that Telus hasn’t even officially announced the new phone. Best Buy isn’t apparently aware of this or the company is listing the HTC phone in advanced intentionally. Is this a human error? It very well might be considering the image Best Buy displayed instead of the actual Touch Pro2 picture. Let us know if you were able to order your Touch Pro2 already. In the mean time we’ll be waiting for Telus to launch the handset too.

Is Verizon trying to do good or is the carrier trying to look good? The carrier has apparently been working on an amendment to roaming agreement laws. In fact Verizon sent letters to various senators encouraging them to recommend that large carriers should be required by law to enter roaming contracts with smaller carriers in those areas where they don’t have any coverage. The contracts should have a minimum 2-year duration in order for the small carriers to be able to expand their own network.

Will we see a law regulating roaming agreements between carriers? Will that be actually beneficial to small carriers? We’ll just have to wait and see.

What do you say folks, are you ready for some Touch Revolution? That’s actually the name of a company whose CEO is former Apple employee Mark Hamblin. The guy says that he has worked on the iPhone and iPod touch and he’s ready to offer lots of touchscreen Android devices coming from his new company, Touch Revolution.

You can expect three categories of new Android gadgets: home control gadgets meant to help you manage lights, security and ventilation, media control gadgets meant to let you control TVs, stereos and DVR programming and home-based smartphones.

We’re more curious about what smartphones Touch Revolution will launch but there aren’t that many details available just yet. It’s said that the first devices will be available later this year. The modues can be hand-held, placed on a tabletop and embedded into walls.

Touch Revolution is apparently officially endorsed by MC Hammer so we’d definitely want to see what products will the company launch this year.

If you’re heading to Las Vegas this time of year then you should know that the CLEAR WiMAX service is now available in the greater Las Vegas area. Clearwire has deployed the new network and that means that over 1.7 million people living in about 638 square miles can now use the service. So if you have a device capable of taking advantage of WiMAX speeds then you absolutely need to pack it with you. And since you are leaving for Las Vegas, make sure you don’t gamble your WiMAX mobile device.

I bet you weren’t expecting this were you? It looks like Japanese customers are downloading lots and lots of porn using their 3G connection. And you know what happens when too many people are downloading too much stuff over a 3G network? The 3G networks get overwhelmed while the porn industry is flourishing. It looks like KDDI and DoCoMo have too many porn-loving smartphone owners that would be ready to pay up to $105 to access their favorite sites from their mobile phone or laptop. Are we to expect the same phenomenon to occur in other markets as soon as people start getting more and more data plans and new smartphones?
