Besides the ZN200 which you have already seen today, Motorola has two more new handsets ready. It launched the W388 and the W396. Let’s have a look at both of them.

The W388 is a candybar cell phone. Top features include a music player with Moto ID and FM radio and a good battery which will get you 9 hours of talk time or 16 days of standby. The microSD slot will get your memory up to 2GB. The W388 is a quad-band GSM handset and it comes with CrystalTalk technology support.

The W396 is a flip phone with limited functions. It has an MP3 player and a dedicated music key. FM radio with RDS is also included. It has a VGA camera and it offers the same CrystalTalk technology. Like the model before it’s a quad-band GSM handset.

If you liked either one, you’ll have to wait. There’s no news yet on pricing and availability but rumors say both models are expected to arrive this quarter.

Motorola ZN200 is ready to be officially launched and you will get one soon if you fancy it. The official launch date is scheduled for Q3 2008. That means we’re going to see it either this month of sometime in September. Looking forward to see who’s going to pick it up and how much will they sell it for.

The ZN200 is a slider phone which features a 1.9 inch display, a 2 megapixel camera for pictures and videos, CrystalTalk technology, an MP3 player with radio and up to 2GB microSD card support. Like what you see so far? There’s nothing really special in here but the phone looks sort of good!

So we’ve seen the Alexander from Motorola last week and now we discover it has an almost twin brother. Well not a similar twin brother in any case as the Atila (that’s Alexander’s brother’s name) lacks the full QWERTY keyboard.

Besides that, the Atila will be the first Motorola handset with tri-band UMTS/HSDPA. Hooray for that. Quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 7.2Mbps HSDPA, 1.8Mbps HSUPA, 2.8 inch QVGA 240×320 screen WiFi b/g and Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional are already included.

So let’s see when Atila and Alexander get released and which one will be more expensive. Any bets?

Concept: Motorola Sparrow

Motorola, world’s leading cell phone manufacturer, has come up with a new concept of Motorola Sparrow. A concept conceived to provide retail stores with a mobile point of sale device, Motorola Sparrow is capable of solving increased service demands from a variety of consumers while decentralizing the check out point. Using this new Motorola Sparrow, consumers can get out faster by paying faster.

The Motorola Sparrow is an all-in-one device that combines a scanner, RFID, point of sale (POS) system, communication and credit card reading capabilities. Equipped with touch sensitive areas, the front and back of the Motorola Sparrow makes it easy to navigate and use.

The MPOS (mobile point of sale) system is not available in many devices and fortunately the Motorola Sparrow has got it for making shopping easy for the consumers. This new concept in eye-catching colors has been thoughtfully designed by Rinat Aruh. I am waiting to see it in stores soon.

Motorola Alexander in Pictures

Motorola Alexander might just be the handset we’ve all been waiting for. And by all I mean all 16 Motorola cell phone lovers out there. Besides the fact that it looks weird and all, the Alexander will hopefully get a Windows Mobile 6.1, a NVIDIA graphics card and a possible 8 megapixel camera. There’s also A-GPS and 3G connectivity.

No price and no official release date. Probably a Q4 launch date, but we’re yet to confirm it.

The LiMo foundation announced the new Motorola ROKR EM30 mobile phone, apparently the 22nd handset model based on the LiMo platform. LiMo, for those who came in late, is a Linux-based operating system for mobile devices. You may also remember the Moto ROKR as being one of their music phones, and the EM30 is no different: Motorola claims compelling music features.

The ROKR EM30 will launch first in Taiwan and other markets are expected to follow later. With an LCD display, D-pad navigation and integrated GPS functionality, users can take advantage of any available location based services. The phone uses ModeShift technology to illuminate the keyboard - red keys illuminate in music mode and blue while in phone mode.

With Radio Data System in place, users can know the artist and song playing on the built-in FM radio. The phone features a 3.5mm stereo headset jack.

Motorola U9 Anyone?

Motorola is still selling phones, despite popular belief. They are reorganizing their departments in a desperate hope to get things going the way they want to, but they are also selling various models of phones. Such a phone is the U9 which will be available unlocked from their online store (yes they do still have an online store).

Motorola is Cleaning House

Motorola isn’t doing that good lately is it? You know it, we know it, and most importantly, they know it. And what better way to have a fresher (re)start than splitting into particular pieces, meant to better work with each other? Oh wait, didn’t they do that already? Yes they did! About four months ago, Motorola split in two: home and networks division.

PEBL Available in Korea

Motorola has a new PEBL phone for the Korean market. The new PEBL will be offered by SK Telecom and it will feature fast 3G connections with HSDPA speeds of 7.2MBps. Other than 3G there’s not much really: a 3.5 mm headset jack, an Mp3 player, a 2.0 megapixels camera and Bluetooth connectivity.

So if you want to get a purple PEBL, head on over to Korea and check with SK Telecom. If not, might as well wait for the next Motorola release.

Motorola Ischia Spotted by the FCC

Here’s another phone from Motorola. Where did it emerge from? Well the FCC spotted it and it’s our duty to mention it. The EM330 Motorola handset will be known as the Motorola Ischia in the future. Motorola seems not to be giving up their fight. They aren’t doing that great in the mobile business lately but they keep sticking to it. More and more models are rolled over.

The Ischia is an entry level clamshell phone. Looking at the specs we see a VGA camera, support for microSD memoru cards, FM radio. Not exactly the smartphone here but the Ischia will definitely run applications like calendar, alarm, calculator and various Java Games.

Verizon has just announced the Motorola Adventure V750. Not the most complicated smartphone, the V750 is still a very awaited handset. It has support for EVDO Rev. A and the Push to Talk service.

In a not so strange twist of events, Motorola ended up suing its former employee, Michael Fenger who is currently working at Apple. Motorola Ranks 5th

Motorola is slowly going down and it has been for quite a while. They lack the perfect handset to take them back up where they would like to be. In a recent count of worldwide handset shipments for the second quarter of the year, Nokia and Samsung took the first places with 240 and 95 million shipped handsets. That’s a lot of cell phones right there.

Just a few millions back, LG and Sony Ericsson with 28.1 and 24 million cell phones shipped. Just a few millions back right? Motorola has shipped out just 23 million which isn’t good at all.

Motorola is ranked 4th overall for 2008, but I bet they don’t exactly care about that. I am sure they’re only thinking about how to make things better. Right Moto? We’re going to some good handsets coming out soon out of your belly, right?

  • Here’s a better Motorola RAZR like phone. The Motorola RAZR 2 V9x is an improved, better version of what we had so far when it comes to Motorola clamshell phones. Or is it the same old trick we’ve seen before? That’s for you to decide in the future. This version is supposed to be launched by AT&T very soon according to rumors.

This quad-band will have HSDPA support, Bluetooth and GPS. You have the usual 2 megapixels camera, the microSD card slot and the USB port. Being a clamshell phone, this RAZR has two LCD screens but the external one has gotten bigger. You can follow GPS directions easily on the new screen.

The AT&T Navigator service is also rumored to be available from AT&T once the V9x is released. We’re going to wait for the official release for prices and plans.
