01 Sep 09 BlackBerry Storm 2, Motorola Sholes, LG VX8575 hitting Verizon in October

Above is a recently leaked Verizon document that gives us a hint at the release window for a few forthcoming handsets.

Said handsets are the BlackBerry Storm 2, Motorola Sholes and LG vx8575 “Chocolate Touch” which are all listed to be launching in October. Now, we’ve heard about the Storm 2 and Sholes for some time now but not the vx8575. Although, the “Chocolate Touch” moniker leads us to believe that this will be a Verizon variation of the LG’s highly anticipated BL40.

So folks, if you’re Verizon contract is up soon you may want to wait until October before you consider a new handset.

30 Aug 09 Nokia 3710a, RM-511, Motorola Morisson pass through FCC

Three phones have graduated from the FCC today namely Nokia’s 3710a and RM-511 in addition to the Motorola Morisson.

Spec wise, Nokia’s 3710a features a 3.2MP camera with LED flash, a clam shell form factor and 3G connectivity. The RM-511, on the other hand, we don’t know much about other than 3G and a clam shell form factor. And last is the slide-out QWERTY keyboard touting Motorola Morisson that we heard about way back in June.

Additionally, it was made known that T-Mobile is the carrier that will be getting all 3 of these handsets.

26 Aug 09 Motorola A3300c Going to China via China Mobile?

To tell you the truth I am personally more interested in Moto’s future Android phones than in its current Windows Mobile lineup. But that doesn’t mean we won’t check out any release from Motorola that’s running other OS than Android. Take the A3300c in the picture here for instance! The phone is headed to China and China Mobile is the carrier that’s going to sell it.

The A3300c will offer a 3.2-inch WVGA touchscreen display, WiFi and 3G connectivity, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash, accelerometer support, GPS and aGPS and handwriting recognition. We don’t have the exact arrival dates and pricing details so far, but stay tuned, Motorola should officially announce it soon.

22 Aug 09 Motorola to Offer Campus-Wide WiMAX Connectivity at Northern Michigan University

If you’re getting ready to go back to school to the Northern Michigan University then you’re in for a pleasant surprise. NMU has decided to partner up with Motorola in order to offer campus-wide WiMAX connectivity. Like that’s not enough for a nice gesture, the university will also offer 3,000 ThinkPads which are, of course, WiMAX ready. That means 1 in 3 students will get a brand new laptop from the university capable of high speed connectivity while in campus. If you won’t be getting one of those ThinkPads then don’t be sad! Laptop and desktop WiMAX adapters will be available to anyone else. The network will have a radius of some 30 miles so you’ll have plenty of WiMAX coverage. And so will other local schools and municipal offices.

15 Aug 09 Verizon Starts LTE Testing in Seattle and Boston

We already knew that Verizon will start LTE trials by the end of the year but we had no idea that Big Red was going to start testing from July. It looks like the company has completed the first tests on July 15 in Seattle while testing in Boston has just been finished.

Verizon used LG and Samsung LTE devices but we have no idea what handsets are capable of LTE connectivity right now. According to Verizon, Motorola is also working on LTE phones so the carrier should have quite a few phones ready for the new 4G network.

Boston and Seattle currently have ten LTE cell sites and Verizon reiterated its hope to launch LTE in as many as 30 markets next year. Curious about that LTE transfer speed? Verizon is saying that at launch we can expect 7-12Mbps download and 3.5Mbps upload speeds. So what do you think? Ready to switch carriers and try some LTE out?

12 Aug 09 Motorola Shules to Run Android Eclair at Launch?

Motorola is trying to keep its Android work as secret as possible but more and more details seem to unexpectedly leak to the public. And Motorola’s future Android phone, the Shules seems even hotter than initially expected.

The phone will apparently run on Android Eclair as it will skip entirely the Donut version. Does that mean that the Shules is going to be the first handset running on Eclair?

A different rumor says that the Shules will a device made for gaming as it will come with ARMv7 architecture and 3D graphics support.

The phone will apparently be available from Verizon and AT&T and/or T-Mobile. That’s right, a GSM version is also in the works and AT&T and especially T-Mobile should be interested in the Shules.

With so many rumors on our hands, we have to wait for Motorola to start spilling the beans. Is anything of what we’ve just said true?

07 Aug 09 Motorola Develops Blur on top of Android?

Who knew that Motorola is keeping itself that busy? Well actually we all knew that Moto is cooking some Android devices but we weren’t really expecting a new UI/OS coming up too.

And it seems like Motorola doesn’t want to launch new phones running on a simple Android OS. Motorola has done some customization of that Android user interface and it has a name: Blur. Blur will be web-connected and you will be able to upgrade any section of the OS over the air. Web content, updates and upgrades will apparently be available right away and everything will be pushed to your Motorola Android phone.

We definitely need more info about Blur and we might see that happen soon enough.

05 Aug 09 iDEN-equipped Motorola ROKR for Sprint and Boost Mobile?

We don’t know if we can find the love in us for a device like the ROKR now that Motorola has moved to greener pastures with the Shules and Morrison, but the iDEN-equipped version of the musicphone that you see above might just be what some iDEN customer is looking for.  There isn’t much to go on this device right now except for the picture above and the rumor of a likely pairing with Sprint and/or Boost in the near future, which is obvious given that Sprint and Boost are the two major iDEN networks in the US, but we will keep you in the loop if anything else pops up, so stay tuned.

05 Aug 09 Motorola Morrison to be unveiled on Oct 21?

We know you are all gaga over the Motorola Shules that surfaced recently, but let’s not forget that other Android smartphone from the same company we spotted earlier, shall we?  Blessed by the FCC recently, it seems that Motorola Morrison has now made its way onto T-Mobile’s Customer Service System.  The rumor mill doesn’t stop there, but turns on to further say that the smartphone will also grope its way onto T-Mobile shelves by October 21.  A bit distant if you ask us, with the Diamond2 already casting its allure on us, but better late than never, we say.  So, what will it be folks? The Shules on Verizon or the Morrison on T-Mobile?

31 Jul 09 Live shot of Motorola Shules surfaces

Yesterday we gave you a glimpse at a render of Motorola’s Android powered Shules but today we actually have a live shot of the device, pictured above.

It’s a bit blurry but from what you can make out you’ll notice that the phone looks a bit rough around the edges and that’s because it is a pre-production model so expect a lot to change before it hits any carriers. Spec wise, we’re still lookin’ at a 3.7-inch screen, QWERTY keyboard, 5MP camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, etc.

30 Jul 09 Motorola Morrison spotted at FCC

We’ve been hearing about the fabled Motorola Morrison for some time now but without any official word we were left in the dark in terms of a price point and release date.

Luckily, thanks to the FCC, we now know that the phone is at least a bit closer to hitting North American carriers. Other than a few basic specs, make note that T-Mobile’s 3G bands are prominently displayed in the above screen capture. Our source also confirms that the handset will be running Android and have WiFi.

A coincidence? Probably not, expect this phone on T-Mobile, at some point in the near future.

Motorola’s interest in Android devices is well known and we have another candidate rumored to be available from Verizon soon. The Motorola Sholes is the Android phone in question and if you’re interested in unofficial features then you should know this handset will offer you a 3.7-inch touchscreen, CDMA, EV-DO Rev A support, 512MB of storage, 256MB of RAM, microSD and microSDHC support for up to 16GB, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, GPS, USB and WiFi. 28 Jul 09 Motorola MOTO V10 Blue

Motorola has a new phone ready for you, the MOTO V10 Blue which might not impress you with any special features. Sure the phone Motorola has been extensively working on the design of the phone but that won’t suffice anymore. The flip phone will offer 2 screens, one external and one internal, Bluetooth connectivity, a 2-megapixel camera so if you’re not pleased with any of that then you’re probably not going to purchase the V10 Blue anytime soon.

SK Telecom will sell the MOTO V10 Blue sometime soon but we have no prices so far.

25 Jul 09 Motorola Unveils MOTODEV Studio for Android Developers

Motorola will not allow itself to be left out as far as Android-based handsets are concerned. And to make life easier for the app developers, Motorola releases the MOTODEV Studio an Android development resource for apps specifically for Motorola handsets.

The launch of this new platform is seen as something in line with the rapid growth of the Android platform. We have seen it in most smartphones in the market today and to make sure that Motorola has its share of the limelight, the MOTODEV Studio is certainly one that should keep them on track.

For the app developers, here is what you can expect:

  • Early access to tools, technical specs, documentation and other development support resources.
  • Exclusive pre-release access to upcoming Motorola devices for testing and debugging.
  • Direct access to Motorola’s developer support engineers via private discussion boards.
  • Maximum market exposure for applications as soon as new mobile devices ship to users.

Motorola will also make publicly available the MOTODEV Studio for Android Beta. MOTODEV Studio is a powerful, Eclipse- based integrated development environment that works with Google’s software development kit.
