Included above is a short demo showcasing the LG GD910 watch phone’s ability to make video calls. As you can see, the video is just a tad bit laggy but the audio seems to come out loud and clear.

I don’t know about you guys, but there’s no doubt in my mind that the LG designers behind the GD910 were using Dick Tracy’s 2-way watch radio as a reference.

Let’s just hope we see this thing hit carriers at a reasonable price because while it’s cool, a high price would make it impossible to justify owning one.

  • LG has released three new cellphones in the Indian market, the GB210, GB270, and KP265, all of which fall in the entry-level category considering their specifications.  While these may lack high-end features like GPS or 3G support, all the three cellphones provide staggering amounts of talktime ranging from 9 to 10.5 hours.  The KP265 (slider) and GB210 (candybar) both feature a 1.3 megapixel camera, an mp3 player, FM radio, and RockeTalk, an application that can be used to login to popular IM services like Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger.  The GB270 on the other hand carries a VGA camera, FM radio with scheduled recording, and interchangeable covers.  All the three cellphones are available now in India for prices ranging from Rs. 4500 to Rs. 5000 ( approx. $93 to $103).

  • LG Reports a Record Second Quarter

LG Electronics has done quite well this past quarter. The company had in fact a record second quarter with sales going up 13.8% compared to last year to $11.229 billion while operating profit came in at $878 million. LG’s margin increased to 7.8% compared to 1.1% last year while the mobile division’s margin went up to 11% from 6.7.

Let’s take a look at its Mobile Communications business! LG totaled a $7.981 billion in sales which is 25.8% more than in Q2 2008 while operating profit came in at $422 million. LG’s Home Appliances division came to $1.812 billion in sales while LG’s Home Entertainment business sold 4.28 million TVs which amounts to $3.492 billion in sales and a profit of $174.

With all this big numbers in LG’s Q2 report we can’t help but wonder how the third quarter is going to look like.

  • After we’ve seen Nokia’s and Sony Ericsson’s Q2 reports, it’s clear that the mobile business wasn’t spared by the financial crisis. And while Sony Ericsson isn’t doing well at all, Nokia managed to keep its market share and get some profits. But the true winners seem to be RIM and Apple which hold just about 3% of the worldwide market. But they don’t seem to care since they managed to bring in 35% of the operating profits. That’s really impressive considering that the two companies are relatively new in the game. RIM and Apple have together surpassed Samsung and LG which hold about 30% of the market but managed to pull in just 20% of the profits.

LG has recently announced that it is now one very happy girl scout, having sold 5 million Cookies in just nine months.  The LG Cookie or the KP500 had already found 2 million customers in the first four months of its release, so hitting the 5 million mark barely three months later comes as no big surprise.  Dr. Skott Ahn, President and CEO of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Company remarked:

Achieving five million units in sales in only nine months is proof that we’re on track with our goal to make Cookie a phone that’s loved by everyone.  Our strategy to provide a full touch screen phone at an affordable price has succeeded beyond our original expectations. If the current trend continues, we expect to see Cookie hit sales of 10 million by the end of this year.

We’ll be around to tell you if the Cookie crawls its way to the 10-million mark, and for all those Cookie users out there, remember that you now have a bestseller in your hands.

  • We have a new trial for you and this time it involves Tsera which claims that it has invented the touchpad and hence everyone else using it will have to pay for the privilege. Tsera says that Apple, Microsoft, LG, Philips, Bang & Olufsen, iriver, Coby, Cowon and Meizu are all in violation of a patent owned by the company. The patent is called “Methods and apparatus for controlling a portable electronic device using a touchpad.” And nobody has paid any money to Tsera for using the technology. Given the big names involved in this huge trial we should expect Tsera to walk away with lots of settlements cash in its pocket.

Ever since we first heard of LG’s GD910 watch-phone back in December of last year, we’ve been wondering when we would actually see it hit the North American market, if ever.

Well today, we get a ray of hope shined on the device as it has recenelty made its was through the FCC and is (almost) ready to hit North American shelves. For those of you who have trouble keeping track of your phone, this one’s for you as it straps to your wrist effectively making it impossible to lose, if you never take it off that is.

Now that we’ve seen the FCC shots all we need to hear of is a carrier. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile? You guys listening?

LG GW620 to Run on Android?

LG hasn’t announced yet its first Android device but it looks like we might have a name for you. Apparently the GW620 Eve is LG’s first device ready to run on Android. Of course LG isn’t officially commenting on the matter so we’ll have to wait a while for it. Rumored specs of the Eve are an HVGA touchscreen display, a full-QWERTY keypad, WiFi, UMTS and WiFi connectivity and an Android browser. It’s this hint that ruined the surprise and made everyone realize that the Eve could be the first Android device available. Should we expect T-Mobile to just grab it and launch it soon?

  • LG Black Label BL42 pictured

It seems that hot on the heels of LG’s recently pictured BL40 is it’s brethren the BL42 slider. Pictured above is said handset which will also fall into LG’s Black Label series of devices.

Details haven’t been confirmed but reports say the device features a 240×320 resolution display, a 5MP display and a Java based operating system.

But honestly, who needs the BL42 when you can opt for the 4.1-inch touchscreen touting BL40? Well, maybe those on the budget assuming this phone is cheaper than the BL40. Either or, there was no mention of a price point or release date.

Despite the fact that the site isn’t in English, you can check out more pictures of the device, here.

The video was cool, but these new pictures have us tingling all over again! The BL40 of LG’s Black Label series that we have been hearing about so much lately decided to pose for a few snaps which have now made their to a German forum and from whatever German we understand (whatever Google can Translate that is), the BL40 is still a touchscreen featurephone that sports a 5mpx lens, a gorgeous 4.1 inch touchscreen display with 21:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 800 x 345, WiFi, and microSD expansion.  What we didn’t know was the Schneider Kreuznach make of the lens, FM transmitter, and almost 335MB of onboard storage.  What’s more, there is another mysterious device in one of the pictures that looks to be another Black Label device, although smaller.  Still, August looks a lot more nearer from this side of the month, so it won’t be long before LG comes out of the closet, right?  Skip over for more pictures…

  • LG LX290 Available from Sprint

A new phone is available from Sprint. The LX290 from LG is ready for the limelight but will it make an impression? Well let’s see what it will offer us and then we’ll be ready to offer you an objective conclusion!

The LX290 will offer you a 1.3-megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom, Picture Messaging, a 2.5mm headset jack, NFL Mobile Live, GPS with Sprint Navigaton, a 1.33 x 1.77 inches QVGA TFT screen and a battery that’s going to offer you up to 6 hours of continuous talk time.

The verdict? It doesn’t look so good folks. The LG LX290 is guilty of not standing out from any crowd. You shouldn’t get it, especially as it’s probably too expensive at $29.99 after mail-in rebate on a 2-year contract from Sprint. You’d be better off with a refurbished $79 iPhone 3G. Objectively speaking, of course!

LG is proud to announce that their GT500 handset has officially launched exclusively on T-Mobile UK.Sure, it’s no BL40 but the GT500 still packs a punch with its 3-inch touchscreen, 5MP camera with autofocus, image stabilization and digital zoom.

Additionally, the GT500 will feature high quality built-in Dolby 2.0 sound (but no 3.5mm headphone jack) and A-GPS. No word on if we will ever see this device Stateside.

Ever since Apple first launched their App Store pretty much every handset manufacturer has done the same. LG however, has been a latecomer to the game only recently announcing the launch of their LG Application Store in Asia.

The LG Application Store will reportedly launch with 1,400 applications with only 100 of them being free. Furthermore, LG says that if Asia takes to their app store as they predict they will take the service global by the end of 2009.

LG BL40 gets a promo video

You know, we could have waited till August to feast our eyes on the Chocolate successor, and if LG had been able to keep this promotional video under wraps for just a few more days, they could have had the grand opening that they had planned for.  The authenticity of the above video is debatable, but the video itself looks professional enough and confirms many of the features that we heard about a while back and more.  According to the promo, the BL40, the fourth cellphone in LG’s Black Label series, will have a huge 4-inch (not 3 inches like we heard the last time) touchscreen display that is not only capable of 800×345 pixel resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio, but can do multi-touch too.  Other rumored features like a 5-megapixel camera, HSDPA 7.2Mbps support, and WiFi are all accounted for and the Flash-based 3D interface looks like a joy to touch through.  A worthy iPhone competitor or not, the BL40 sure looks like a great heir to the ever popular LG Chocolate.  Watch the video above and tell us if you think the same too!

LG has its very own 12-megapixel phone. The LG GC990 Louvre is going to be available at some point in the future but it has decided to make an appearance. The phone will offer you neat specs like a 12.1-megapixel shooter, a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, touch-focus features, a 3.2-inch 16:9 touchscreen display, DNLA, TV-Out, XviD and DivX playback, Bluetooth connectivity, aGPS and WiFi connectivity. In other words, the GC990 is a great camera that doubles as a phone. It gets even better! The Louvre can handle ISO of up to 3200 for images and it can record video up to 720p at 30fps. Have we gotten you all excited about it? So now we need some prices and arrival dates! What do you say LG?

First teased this morning, LG’s second-gen Chocolate has been extremely hyped for some time now. However, details on the phone weren’t supposed to be released until next month.

Well, if rumors are to be believed more details on the phone have leaked out. The phone’s model number will reportedly be BL-40, the screen will be more than 3 inches diagonally and feature a 21:9 aspect ratio and a resolution of 800 x 345. Additionally, the handset will feature a 5MP camera and HSDPA.

Are these rumors to be believed? If so I’m likin’ what I’m hearin’ so far. I guess we’ll have to wait until next month to pass final judgement.

Ready for some more chocolate guys and gals? Well LG is certainly preparing for more. Although not official yet, the new Chocolate phone is in the works. The Spanish LG blog has revealed some pictures of the new Chocolate today and we definitely like what we see so far. The teaser photos briefly show the new LG while not revealing anything in particular. Exactly as a teaser should work. At least we know that more details are coming our way in August and hopefully next month LG is going to officially unveil its fourth model of the Black Label series.
