We’ve seen the HTC Cedar getting mentioned a couple of times already and the Windows Mobile phone has hit the FCC. Or at least we assume the filling for a new HTC CEDA200 smartphone is describing the Cedar also known as the Willow. The phone will come in portrait-style and ready for a CDMA network. The filing asks the FCC to hold photos until July 30th which is pretty much consistent with the Q2 launch date we’ve heard before.

The HTC Maple seems to be on its way to the CTIA in Las Vegas. The phone will offer you a full QWERTY keypad, trackball nagigation, a 2.4-inch QVGA display, a Qualcomm 7228 processor running at 528MHz, 156MB of RAM, 256MB of ROM, a 2 megapixel camera and Windows Mobile 6.1. There’s still no price for the Maple yet but this HTC phone should definitely arrive by May.

We already know about the other Android handset that’s on its way to China, and HTC is now following suit with the G2, more widely known as the HTC Magic with a few modifications to make it fit enough for China Mobile. 3G and WiFi are given a miss in this version and support for the country’s TD-SCDMA network is thrown in. That’s not all that is changed as the user interface is also completely customized with Chinese language support and the brand name has also been changed to Dopod, a name much more popular than HTC in China.
The rest of the story is the same as any other Magic news we have got you lately, which means there’s no info on pricing or a release date.

Besides the HTC Magic which is coming soon HTC will launch at least two more new Android phones this year. And it’s all pretty much official since HTC’s CEO, Peter Chou said that at least three Android handsets are coming this year, including the HTC Magic. He didn’t give us more details to work on so we’re going to be expecting blurry leaks for two more Android phones.

The CTIA Wireless Trade Show is just over two weeks away and people say the HTC Maple is going to be unveiled in Las Vegas. The HTC Maple will come with a 2.4-inch QVGA display, Windows Mobile 6.1, 128MB of RAM, 256MB ROM and a 528MHz Qualcomm 7225 processor. There’s nothing official just yet so we’ll be holding on to this rumor waiting for CTIA to confirm it.

The FCC and GCF have always been great sources to look up new cell phones that might have been kept under tight wraps by the mobile giants and it seems like we have one such device now from HTC, the XV6175. The XV should be a dead giveaway as to where the device will land up ultimately, with the XV prefix being used only by Verizon for all devices that’s HTC on their lineup. According to the GCF, the XV6175 is designed to work with GSM 850/900/1800/1900 network bands, but wait, isn’t Verizon a CDMA carrier? So, most probably what we are seeing is a worldphone that could cruise both the GSM and CDMA networks with equal ease. And with the leaked HTC lineup for 2009 already in our eager hands, the XV6175 could be narrowed down to three worldphone devices that were revealed in that handy list, the Whitestone W, HTC Twin, or the HTC Cedar, but we’ll stop our guesswork here and hope HTC will hurry up and announce it already!

Are you going to buy an HTC Magic first chance you get? Can’t wait for Vodafone or T-Mobile to bring it to your neighborhood? Information on how to re-flash the phone is also available so you’ll have your hands full until the phone will be actually released. Besides the Magic manual you’ll also find the HTC T8290/Quartz (in the picture) manual to download.

For all those disappointed souls hoping for a Verizon Touch Diamond, don’t lose hope just yet. BGR has a couple of photos to prove that there is indeed is a Touch Diamond waiting to hop on Verizon’s back, but with a few changes that would go unnoticed if you aren’t really looking for them. Most of the specs remain the same as the other Diamond versions including the Sprint’s Touch Diamond, aside from taking a cut on the ROM/RAM side to 256/128MB.
There is still no word on a release date but with the Touch Diamond2 on its way in a few months, it remains to be seen if Verizon will actually go ahead and release the older version.

If you’re in Germany and you love HTC phones you might be in trouble. It’s reported that HTC has lost a patent violation suit to IPCom GmbH. HTC is supposed to pay license fees for some UMTS patents used in Windows Mobile and Android handsets. According to German law, HTC infringed on “100 series” patents which were bought by OPCom from Robert Bosch GmbH in 2006.
What will HTC do? A settlement should be the most logical outcome. After all HTC won’t want to miss out on any potential market. Especially since T-Mobile is selling the G1 and HTC Magic is around the corner.

Don’t worry folks, Yahoo is not making any new phone just yet. They’ve tried and they’ve failed so far. And Vodafone is still going to launch the HTC Magic which will still run on Google’s Android.
We’re just talking about search engines for mobile devices. Google is the current search engine on mobile phones sold by Vodafone but the agreement is going to expire. And Vodafone might sign with the other important search engine out there, Yahoo.
Yahoo has obtained important contracts with T-Mobile and O2. Should they get Vodafone too, Yahoo will be in a position where it would provide search results to a lot of European customers.
But what do you think? What’s your favorite search engine for your mobile phone?

Is the HTC Magic coming via T-Mobile USA? Well besides Google telling us that, we now have FCC playing with the HTC Magic. However the Magic unit they doesn’t seem ready to support T-Mobile’s 1700MHz AWS band yet. That must only mean we’re expecting another HTC Magic version to arrive for the U.S. Android-friendly customers. Or is T-Mobile preparing a totally different HTC Android phone for later this year?

An HTC phone belonging to a Telstra exec disappeared during last week’s MWC. Everyone that knew about it, is probably waiting for hot stuff to come out of it. At least some hot hands-on Windows Mobile 6.5 videos. Well that will never happen as the phone has been wiped out already, over the air. Microsoft personally took care of that. It wiped all traces of the operating system and user data from the mobile as soon as it has been reported stolen. It’s good to know one will be able to protect private data with that new Microsoft mobile OS. But how do you feel knowing that Microsoft can erase stuff from your phone? Hopefully that kind of technology will never fall in the wrong hands.

Not every hot phone that gets announced will make it to every corner of the world. Sometimes the cool phones arrive to only one certain market which tends to bother everyone else. Well we have some good news for future HTC Touch Pro2 buyers. HTC announced via it’s Twitter account:
And to answer the big question on everyone’s minds, the Touch Pro2 will be broadly available in all major markets, including North America.
Maybe the Touch Pro2 won’t exactly make it to every corner of the world, but it will certainly boldly go where other HTC handsets have never gone before. The phone will begin shipping in late Q2, so get ready to wait.
