HP Compaq Presario CQ61Z laptop

The CQ61Z is just another HP Compaq laptop that belongs to the Presario line. It was recently announced by HP and it can feature various processors, be it an AMD Sempron single core M100, or an ADM dual core CPU (M300, M320, and more).

ATI is responsible for the graphics department with its HD 4200, but I bet the 4GB of DDR3 memory will also be a good help. The display screen measures 15.6-inches, and the hard-drive space can go up to 500GB. The default model comes with a DVD burner but you can opt for a Blu-ray drive.

Other features of the HP Compaq Presario CQ61Zinclude a VGA output, HDMI as optional, and Windows 7 Home Premium as the OS.

  • Don’t look so surprised by that number! Windows Mobile 6.5 is coming and it looks like there are quite a few phone makers ready to roll phone capable or running Microsoft’s newest OS. And while we’re definitely thrilled to see that concept tablet, the Courier already, we can’t say we’re similarly interested in Windows Mobile 6.5. The OS is clearly a transition platform from the old Windows Mobile 6 to the future Windows Mobile 7.

Nonetheless manufacturers out there are ready to launch Windows Mobile 6.5 phones! Those 30 new handsets capable of running Microsoft latest OS will be made by HTC, Samsung, LG, Sony Ericsson, Acer, Toshiba and HP. The phones will be released by the end of the year and we know a few carriers are definitely interested: AT&T, Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, NTT DoCoMo, Softbank Mobile, SKT, Telestra and Telus.

Will you buy a Windows Mobile 6.5 phone?

  • A new iPAQ seems to be heading to AT&T, at least according to the FCC. The K3 is going to have GSM and HSPA support for the 850/1900MHz bands which means that AT&T is the designated carrier. And to make it even clearer, there’s AT&T SKU written all over the ID label available right here. The K3 Obsidian is probably going to run Windows Mobile but we have no idea when it’s coming out. Should we simply assume that HP will launch it sometime in October?

  • The last time we saw it, the iPaQ K3 was what you would have expected if it were to compete with others in the smartphone category, but things seems to have changed slightly now and we are not sure if this will give the Obisidian an edge over its competitors.  Apparently, HP has dropped the standard 2.8-inch TFT touchscreen display for a smaller, 2.46-inch 320 x 240 pixel AMOLED display and the camera is bettered now to a 3.2 megapixel lens against the 2-megapixel snapper listed on the initial leak.  Other specs such as its GPS, 3.5mm audio jack, WiFi, Bluetooth 2.0, full QWERTY keypad, WinMo 6.5 OS, and microSD slot are still intact as are the 528MHz CPU with 256MB RAM and 512MB ROM.  The release date of November 30 is also unchanged, so you’ll have to wait till then to lay your hands on this smartphone.  Skip over for a few more pictures…

  • HP shows of their new Mini 5101

HP is proud to unveil their latest addition to the already saturated netbook market, the Mini 5101. As you can see from the above shot this is definitely one of the finer looking laptops. But who cares about looks, it’s all about specs, right?

Battery wise you’re looking at a 4 or 6 celled battery with the 6 cell being touted as lasting for 8 hours. All of this packed into a modest 2.6 pound package is sure to make netbook buyers turn their heads.

  • HP Mini 110 Netbook Review

The new HP Mini 110 is a 10″ netbook has been reported by some to be “the company’s best netbook for consumers yet”. The Mini 110 earns points for its excellent keyboard and additional ports over the earlier generation Mini 1000. However it does lose praise for the awkward mouse buttons and the increased weight from the last gen model is disappointing.

The fact that HP has dropped the Mini 1000’s edge-to-edge glass display is also  met with disapproval. On the up side, there is good use of some of the extra space as there are now three USB 2.0 ports and a standard VGA port. At $329, the Mini 110 is reasonably priced and if you tack on another $40 you can upgrade to the 6-cell battery (3 cell is standard).

  • Sure as clockwork, Verizon is now offering the HP Mini 1151NR netbook, which seems to be a great alternative to squinting at small cellphone screens to view your emails.  The price also seems better than what a smartphone would command, with the Mini 1151NR going for $199.99 after a $50 rebate on a 2-year Mobile Broadband contract, or a 1-year contract which rounds up to $299.99 after rebate.  Not much considering that the netbook has EVDO Rev. A, quad-band GPRS/EDGE/GSM, and triband HSPA/UMTS support, running on a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, 1GB of memory, and 80GB HDD with a large 10.1-inch display.   Head over to Verizon to get your netbook fix.

The first netbook is coming from Verizon on May 17. The HP Mini 1151NR will be offered for $199 with a 2-year contract after some rebates. You should expect to get a $40 or $60/month contract. If that’s not a problem for you and you’re looking for a new netbook then, by all means, get this baby when it comes out next week. In case you’re getting your broadband Internet for somewhere else then you should consider other netbook choices.

  • To help increase the class of the Blackberry, HP and RIM have come together to deliver a portfolio of solutions for business mobility on the BlackBerry platform. HP iPAQ Voice Messenger Smartphone

The HP iPAQ has been completely redesigned to produce a stylish mobile phone that is bound to get a lot of attention. The HP iPAQ Voice Messenger certainly looks the part.

It looks similar in stature to the RIM BlackBerry Pearl 8120 smart phone. Build quality feels solid, though the rear casing does squeak slightly when pressed and the glossy chrome finish on the rear is a fingerprint magnet.

The iPAQ Voice Messenger smartphone includes all the programs and features of Windows Mobile 6.1, including Excel, PowerPoint and Word Mobile applications, Windows Media Player, Google Maps and a range of PIM functions. It’s easy to configure for use with Microsoft Exchange, and you can also use standard POP3 and IMAP e-mail accounts, including Gmail and Yahoo! Mail. A suite of Windows Live applications includes Windows Live Messenger and Hotmail.

HP’s iPAQ Voice Messenger smartphone wins points for its looks, but not all of the design changes are welcomed. The optical controller is mediocre and the keypad is flat, making an otherwise competent handset frustrating to use.

  • You asked for that iPAQ Data Messenger from HP? I guess you waited for it for quite a while now and you deserve getting it. The handset is available for pre-order in the UK and it costs $593. But isn’t it too late for HP to release it? We have lots of hot prospects out there. Motorola has new handsets prepared, HTC has a new line ready for 2009 and the Pre is waiting patiently. Not to mention that Windows Mobile 6.1 will be history soon and that Android is growing stronger every minute. And that presidentially-endorsed BlackBerry is becoming more and more famous. I haven’t forgotten Apple either, especially since the Cupertino-based company has just been awarded that precious multi-touch patent.

So, do you really want a Windows Mobile 6.1 HP iPAQ Data Messenger now?

    • NVIDIA nForce 760i SLI chipset
    • Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83GHz processor
    • 4GB of RAM
    • Dual NVIDIA GeForce 9800S cards
    • Two 320GB SATA drives
    • Blu-ray
    • 5-in-1 card reader
    • 6 USB, 1 FireWire, 2 eSATA, 1 S/PDIF and 1 DVA dual-link
    • Bluetooth
    • 802.11n WiFi

CES 2009 is where we can expect this HP to show up. Hopefully we’re going to get some prices and availability dates there!
