We told you a few days ago that the Quickfire has been rapidly removed from the shelves and floors of AT&T stores. We didn’t know it then but the handsets can be really dangerous for you. Apparently if you plug in the Quickfire the wrong way it might blow away. No explosions occurred yet, but I’m sure people do charge the phone the wrong way. Here’s AT&T’s text message sent to Quickfire owners:
The clearly marked, embossed arrow on the AC Charger adapter should always be face-up on the same side as the display screen of the Quickfire when it is inserted into the phone. See the diagram below for proper positioning and insertion of the AC Charger adapter into the phone. You should never force the AC Charger adapter into the phone.
If you have any questions, please call 1-800-801-1101.
Sincerely,
I’d be really careful with get rid off that device if I were you.

We were expecting the Pantech Matrix Pro to arrive from AT&T and it looks it did. Starting today, the Matrix Pro will be available from your local AT&T store. How much will one cost? Just $179.99 with a 2-year contract and after $50 mail-in rebate. That’s how much you’ll have to pay for the dual slider we showed you last week. The only downside of this smartphone is the lack of WiFi connectivity. You’ll have to rely on your 3G connectivity to go online while on the go.
So what do you think? Let us know how this Pantech works if you plan to purchase one in the immediate future.

In case you purchased a Quickfire handset from AT&T, make sure you call them and ask what’s wrong with it. It must be something wrong with it otherwise AT&T wouldn’t have issued a notice to all managers to stop selling Quickfires. Even the demo handsets have been removed from the floors which means there are some problems with it. You might consider returning your unit and have it replaced with something else.

AT&T and T-Mobile might be the carriers which Acer will partner up with. Therefore the carriers could offer Acer smartphones for free provided that their subscribers will sign up for a new agreement. AT&T workers aren’t happy and they might act on it. AT&T Mobility have been involved in contract talks with the Communication Workers of America but they failed to reach an understanding. That means that 20,000 AT&T workers could go on strike any day now. CWA has voted in favor of a strike if future negotiations will fail to work. The current contract will expire tonight at midnight but AT&T doesn’t seem that concerned. AT&T says the most unionized workers and they are prepared for any scenario, even if that means strike. As for the strike thing, before it starts it has to be approved by the executive board of CWA and the president has to set a date. What will happen with AT&T if the workers go on strike?

Will we get a Yahoophone? Well no, it was cancelled by Bartz, the new Yahoo CEO. It looks like her daughter preferred a different phone and she wasn’t impressed with the prototype her mom has given her. The Yahoophone was supposed to come filled with Yahoo services which can be totally useless if you don’t use any of them.
Motorola and AT&T were on board too and they must be pretty pissed off right now. A top Yahoo mobile executive is said to have left the company while others have been fired.
Is this a good move for Yahoo? Is this a good move for Bartz? Time will tell, but a Motorola Yahoophone wasn’t really necessary, was it?

Looking for a new phone? Is it an LG? Is it a slider? I hope you answered yes to all those questions as I have a new LG for you. Well actually, AT&T is going to have a new LG slider for you. It’s the CF360 phone is arriving at AT&T in the following days. It’s an entry-level phone which lacks any impressive features. You should expect a 1.3 megapixel camera, microSD slot, Bluetooth, music player, GPS with AT&T Navigator but that’s about it. It should be cheap too, especially if you get it with a contract, so go stalk some AT&T store for more info about actual arrival date.

Did you think that AT&T was simply going to stand by and watch every other carrier launch their femtocell hardware? Well of course not! AT&T has a 3G MicroCell device which might actually get launched sooner or later. That’s right folks, we have no arrival dates and pricing for this one, but AT&T seems ready to start selling it. The device comes from Cisco and it will get you 5,000 square miles of coverage and it will allow up to four simultaneous voice data connections. The only downside is that this device will work with 3G phones. But you were probably going to get a 3G device too, right. It looks like AT&T has the edge over its competition as Sprint and Samsung only offer 2G coverage.

The picture above is a screenshot from a Bold which has a Visual Voicemail icon on the homescreen. The person using it says it won’t work yet as every time it’s being launched an error pops out. That particular Bold was sold by AT&T and it’s running on OS version 4.6.0.219. What do you think? Is your AT&T Bold doing the same to you? Does it have that Visual Voicemail on that homescreen? Does it work?

We’ve talked about iPhone tethering for so many times so far that it should only be fair for AT&T and Apple to officially settle the deal so far. We’ve seen both legal and illegal tethering version so we should only be waiting for the officially official version.
Is Tuesday’s Macworld keynote going to reveal an AT&T iPhone tethering plan? The plan has been rumored cost $30 per month for 5GB. Sounds familiar? Well that’s what AT&T BlackBerry users are paying so far. Will we be disappointed this Tuesday or will we be excited? We’ll answer that question soon.

We have some disturbing news coming from AT&T at this start of the year. Well not exactly news yet but rumors. People say that the company has been reallocating its EDGE service to the 1900MHz weaker band. That means worse coverage for you. This move is supposed to increase their 3G strength. While we can appreciate AT&T’s interest in improving their HSPA service, we are also aware that not all AT&T subscribers own 3G capable phones. Thus the disturbance in the force.
Will the AT&T EDGE support be discontinued before the 3G network becomes more stable or after?

The Samsung i8510 Innov8 might be closer to us than we think. The phone has just passed through the FCC and North American customers might see it arrive from AT&T and/or Rogers soon. The American model will come with dual 850/1900 3G support which means you will have great data support in case you want to mail lots of photos taken with that 8 megapixel camera. As always, we don’t have expected arrival dates or pricing just yet.

It’s not Wal-Mart who’s going to bring you a $99 8GB iPhone but it’s AT&T. And it’s not a 4GB version but an 8GB version that AT&T is going to sell for $99. How’s that possible you ask? Those 8GB iPhone 3G are refurbished ones. They will come with a 2-year contract and the $100 discount I’ve just told you about.
And in case your mind keeps wondering about refurbished 16GB iPhones then you’ll be happy to know AT&T will offer you the same $100 discount for them. A $16GB iPhone 3G with a 2-year contract will sell for $199. Just make sure you check the iPhone you’re going to choose! You wouldn’t want it damaged in any way!
