We all know by now that the Apple iPhone has a touchscreen interface. So unless you purchase a compatible Bluetooth headset, you’ll actually need to hold the phone in your hands and touch the screen to get it to work. But what if you don’t want a silly Bluetooth headset? What options for hands-free use do you have other than that? Thankfully, there’s iPhree, a new device that breaks the trend of having a small, sleek thingy attached to your ear.
The iPhree consists of a white helmet emblazoned with the Apple logo, and a pole that extends outward, onto which you can mount your iPhone. Just hook up your iPhone and be on your way to enjoying hands-free iPhone use.
Sound like something you could use? Check out the video to learn more about iPhree. When you’re done, you can pick one up today, available on eBay starting at just 1 Euro!

Apple’s recent patent filings seem to indicate that it may have a new device on the cards soon. If the filings are interpreted correctly, it appears to be an iPhone in the iPod nano’s form factor. What this boils down to is a device capable of just two functions: a phone and a music player.
Sure, the iPhone is already out there, but if conceived, the iPhone nano with its smaller screen and a UI that people are already familiar with will put Apple in an enviable position. Don’t expect this to have a higher capacity though: it could be the same 4/8GB as the iPhone offers now.
More on the patent filing jere.

I configured the iPhone to a few email accounts that I have and it started to download mail. One of the nice things was that if you opened a YouTube link in your email, it brings up the YouTube widget to play the video. It didn’t always work for me, though, but it’s okay.
I still have complaints with the battery: I think it’s draining a bit too fast. At the rate I am recharging the iPhone (almost once a day), I will reach the 300-400 recharges in the next 1 year, after which I should start worrying about the battery and getting it replaced.
Other gripes which you might’ve already seen elsewhere:

More iPhone news (sorry about that!). According to inside knowledge that the Financial Times has, UK carrier O2 will be offering the Apple iPhone to its subscribers. What’s more, the iPhone will hit other European countries like France (through Orange) and Germany (through T-Mobile).
And the reason why Vodafone is not getting the iPhone? Because its 3G network is just “too advanced for the 2.5G EDGE phone from Apple”. Now, we can’t really say how warm or cold a reception the iPhone will have in Europe, one of the primary reasons being the high price
Anyway, we should have more details soon.

Today I took the iPhone out to do laundry. (If you missed the reason, it’s not too late!) Anyway, it took a good two hours, and I couldn’t help notice that the iPhone’s battery drained way faster than I thought it would.
At the end of two hours of playing songs while browsing the web using Safari (deliberately avoiding Wi-Fi this time, and using AT&T’s slow EDGE network), the battery indicator showed just a little over 60%. And this was an iPhone that was fully charged the previous night. Now remember, Apple has put a disclaimer on their battery results that actual numbers may vary.
In the initial two days of using the QWERTY keyboard on the iPhone, I was a klutz. Couldn’t type a sentence if my life depended on it. I’ve gotten better at it now, but the typing is still not as fast as on a Nokia phone. Plus, where’s the copy-paste when you need it?

Quick video on how to change the SIM card on your Apple iPhone. Have a pin handy, don’t hurt yourself though.
Of course, you still gotta wait for someone to unlock the iPhone to make it work with other carriers.

Plus points here for Apple: their out-of-the-box experience is nothing short of legendary, and the tradition continues with the iPhone.

One thing is for sure: if you use your iPhone as an iPod or portable device for web browsing, there’s not going to be much of battery life left on the device. Here’s why I think this is not so bad: if you are used to the iPod (and I suspect most iPhone users are - except me), you automatically plug it into your laptop or computer’s USB port.
Think about it: you come home, and plug in the iPod. Whether to sync or just to charge it, you are already used to this. And you’re bound to do the same thing with the iPhone - charging it in the process. Very clever, Apple.
Some quirks that I encountered on Day 3:
Fast switching between portrait and landscape modes - when I don’t want it
Today, I took out the iPhone on a little ride. And by little, I mean a 2 hour commute across a few towns in North and Central New Jersey. And found some interesting things about it. For example, when you’re viewing a web page in Safari in landscape mode and the bus jerks a bit, the iPhone flips into portrait mode. No complaints about reading on the phone though - the display is crystal clear.
More after the cut.

Remember that day when the FCC blessed the Apple iPhone? At that time, Apple had requested short-term confidentiality of the photos and and user manual. Until June 29, 2007, the confidentiality request was active. Now, after the launch, they are available with the FCC.
You might have already seen the Apple iPhone Bluetooth headset (available from the Apple Store for US $129). This headphone supports hands-free profile, but there’s no mention of the more important headset profile. Does this mean the iPhone cannot be used with Bluetooth stereo headphones? Sadly, yes. The A2DP (advanced audio distribution profile) is missing. There’s also no mention of voice-activated dialing in the manual, another minus point there.
I have been playing with the iPhone for a day now. It was fully charged in the morning, and in less than 10 hours, I got the Less than 20% battery remaining warning. Of course, I have been using it as an iPod, ripping Safari’s guts out - while making the iPhone switch between EDGE and Wi-Fi periodically just for fun. When it was windy outside, one could hardly hear another person speak on the iPhone.

It was 7:30 AM on Sunday morning. I had just woken up and my peepers were still half-closed. I was contemplating whether to go for a long overdue visit to the barber’s or do my laundry, when the Supreme Managing Editor (Paul) of MobileWhack buzzed me on IM with the following message: “Sandeep, we need an iPhone review for the Whack.” I quickly decided the visit to the barber can wait another week, and the laundry — well, I’ll save that story for later.
With finances for the iPhone commissioned, I took the next bus outta my town to the Big Apple, fully determined to fight my way at the Fifth Avenue Apple Retail Store.
As you can see, just after 36 hours of launch, it looks like the excitement had died down. It was a bloomin’ Sunday morning and not crowded at all! This made me think of Greg Packer, the iLoser who was in line starting a full 4 days before the launch. Sometimes, life’s just not fair.

Just days before the release of the Apple iPhone, the company announced that the phone will deliver a long battery life. This means that you will get up to 8 hours talk time, 6 hours of browsing the interwebs, 7 hours of video playback and most importantly, 24 hours of audio playback. However, the Apple standard disclaimer does tell us that these times are network-dependent.
That puts the iPhone in the league of serious MP3 players. Indeed, the top surface is now enhanced from plastic to optical-quality glass for better scratch resistance.
At the announcement, Jobs added, “There has never been a phone like iPhone, and we can’t wait to get this truly magical product into the hands of customers starting just 11 days from today.”
In case you haven’t marked your calendars yet, the iPhone will hit the markets starting June 29. The 4GB model is priced at $499 and 8GB at $599.

Everyone’s busy these days - it’s June, and people are finalizing their vacation plans. Then there is HTC, busy as a bee building an iPhone rival. The Taiwan-based smartphone maker will be bringing out its version of a touch-screen phone by the end 2007.
It would be interesting to see how the HTC touch phone stands its ground against the apparently daunting Apple iPhone. June 29 is pretty special because of the release in the US. I am trying to see if I can get hold of one somehow, let’s see how it goes.
HTC is the world’s largest manufacturer of devices, producing not only own-brand phones but building phones for other manufacturers.
