The 3G iPhone Will Blend

With all these 3G iPhone news flying around, you definitely deserve a break. This is the perfect video for that. It’s funny yet it teaches you something.
The 3G iPhone isn’t indestructible as Apple says. Sure you might not break it when you drop it from 6 feet, sure the screen won’t get scratched, but imagine dropping it into a blender?

  • iPod Touch Firmware 2.0 Update

iPod Touch owners have been waiting also for their firmware 2.0 update. Although it’s not free like for the iPhone and you will have to pay the previously announced $9.95 price.

The iPhone 2.0 Software Update for iPod Touch is available now from the iTunes store. You will have support for Mail, Contact, Calendars, MobileMe and Microsoft Exchange Active sync. This update apparently includes all of the January Software Update applications and features.

Needless to say you will have complete access to all iPhone applications in the App Store after your updated your Touch.

iPhone Dev Team Pwnage Tool 2.0

I was telling you yesterday how the iPhone Dev Team managed to unlock and jailbreak the 3G iPhone already. They are preparing their Pwnage Tool 2.0 which will have support for Firmware 2.0.

It’s not available yet and it won’t be released over this weekend, but in the mean time you can enjoy the video above. Next step should be trying to get out of that plan you have already purchased. No matter where you find yourself at this time.

Again, Apple, what are you going to do?

No surprise there. Apple’s iPhone 3G is fast becoming a scarce commodity, and that’s just one day after it was let loose in the States. Many stores all over the country now claim to have sold all of their launch stock and AT&T is now taking preorders through a “direct fulfillment process” in anticipation of a shipment update from Apple. With this option, customers will have to pay for iPhone 3G in full and they can have their iPhone 3G in three to five days when the shipment arrives. Not a bad idea given the activation problems that AT&T had due to the extreme load the first day put on iTunes servers.

  • Ipod Touch 2.0 Firmare Upgrade Leaked

With the released of the much anticipated App Store and the iTunes 7.7, users will have to upgrade their firmware to 2.0 for them to be able to use these new features. For those who already have the iPhone - or for those getting the 3G iPhone, i bet it already has firmware 2.0 installed - the update can be downloaded for free. But for those with the iPod Touch, Apple is asking for a $10 upgrade fee.

Well, I just saw this article from livecrunch offering the iPod Touch 2.0 firmware update for free! And what’s even better is that the people who have already downloaded it, claimed it worked, with the iTunes 7.7 and the App Store. I’m downloading my copy right now and try to test it on my iPod Touch.

For those interested, below is the link to the article.

    AT&T New 3G Coverage Maps

Well guys, how many of you have purchased an 3G iPhone despite the fact you the much needed 3G coverage? All the apps are available for the first generation iPhones out there after upgrading their firmware to 2.0.

  • The very few days after the WWDC 2008 we heard how TomTom had an application ready for the 3G iPhone. Soon after that we’ve seen how such an application would contradict the SDK agreement so therefore although viable, no TomTom official GPS navigation application has been released.

Well things aren’t just peachy with the whole 3G iPhone retail release. We have lines, we have stocks that might finish, and we have server failure.
At least that’s what happened earlier on with the iTunes servers. That means no activation for 3G iPhone late afternoon buyers.

Remember how AT&T insisted on in-store activation of the new handsets? Well lots of buyers were sent home from both Apple and AT&T stores and they were told to try and activate them later on from the iTunes sites. So much for in-store activation. And apparently Apple didn’t consider anything in their iPhone campaign. They managed to market the handset very well, with lots of publicity around. They managed to deliver the iPhones in time for the retail release, but they didn’t manage to control their own servers.

It was thought that those buyers unable to activate the phone will be stuck with two unusable handsets since upgrading to the 3G iPhone means disabling your previous SIM. Well apparently the second SIM worked on the first iPhone so at least you still have a cell phone to use until you’re going to activate your second generation iPhone.

Apple has been working on those servers and although the iTunes went down, they have been restored after a couple of hours and 3G iPhone customers are said to be able to activate their new phones or update OS to version 2.0. (Oh yeah, updates to 2.0 were not available too as servers were down)

  • The 3G iPhone isn’t that available yet and its software appears to have been already unlocked and jailbroken. What do you think Apple? Back to the drawing boards for the next OS versions? I mean you certainly weren’t expecting no one to succeed in hacking it right?

  • AT&T’s iPhone Shipping Policy

With so many waiting for the 3G iPhone, there’s no wonder that in some places phone stocks will be soon depleted. Probably in most areas, iPhone lovers will go through whatever it takes to get their hands on the iPhone.

It’s July 11th folks, the iPhone is here again. This time we aren’t looking at a big screen presentation controlled by Steve Jobs. This time we have 22 countries around the world selling the Apple’s phone. Everything started with New Zealand. They were the first to get the iPhone with some people getting in line a few days in advanced. Australia and Japan followed and then the rest of Europe. One by one, carrier stores opened their doors to the public. Lines have been reported elsewhere with people anxiously waiting for the 3G iPhone.

    Apps Store Launched Today

The 3G iPhone would surely lose some of its appeal without all that applications developed especially for it. And the Apple App Store has been created to store, read sell, all those fun apps. Apple’s App Store has been launched today, a day before the iPhone will be available for retail.

There are more then 500 native applications available for download. Some of them are going to be free while others will sell for just a couple of bucks.

Do you need numbers? Over 125 applications will be offered for free while 90% of the rest will sell for less than $10. Not to bad right? I bet Apple will make a lot of money out of those apps.

There are a bunch of categories to choose from and you will certainly find the applications you need to install. I’m sure Apple’s App Store will get lots of hits once the iPhone will be finally sold.

    3G iPhone Plans in Belgium

Mobistar is the carrier bringing the iPhone in Belgium. From what we hear the iPhone will be rather expensive there no matter what plan you might choose. According to current laws in Belgium, the carrier is prevented from locking the device, so the 3G iPhone will come unlocked. That’s certainly a good news, until you see those prices.

The 8GB 3G iPhone will cost $826 while the 16GB version will be priced at $967.

The iPhone plans are as follows. The entry plan is priced at $47 per month. You get 180 voice minutes, 300 SMS messages and only 200MB. The $71 per month plan will get you 360 voice minutes, 600 SMS messages and 500MB of data. The most expensive plan, priced at $94 per month will give you 540 minutes, 900 messages and 1GB of data

Not the best plan we’ve seen so far here. If money is no object to you and you want a genuine unlocked 3G iPhone, Belgium is the place to go.

  • 3G iPhone Plans in Austria

With less than a day to July 11th, the day the 3G iPhone hits the stores, we have more news about iPhone pricing and plans across the world. It’s time for taking a look at Austria where T-Mobile is selling the iPhone. Apparently T-Mobile isn’t going to change that much the already existing plans for the iPhone.

The Classic plan has 1,000 calling time to any mobile carrier network, 3GB of data, visual voicemail and free WiFi where available for just $55 per month for the first 10,000 customers. After that the plan goes to $61 per month. That’s what I call a promising plan. The iPhone will cost $234 or $360 depending on what model you choose.

The Supreme plan has 1,000 calling time to any mobile carrier network, 3GB of data, visual voicemail and free WiFi where available for just $71 for the first 10,000 users. After that the plan goes to the regular $86. You get extra 1,000 SMS messages per month and you can make call at no cost to any kind of network. The iPhone will cost either $156 or $281, depending on version.

All in all these seem to be really good plans. Plenty of voice minutes and data for T-Mobile’s customers here.

  • Vodafone is the last Australian carrier not to have disclosed so far their iPhone plans pricing. We’ve seen Telstra and Optus rolling out their offer. I don’t understand what the big deal is Vodafone! I mean you did put your offers up in other countries right?

Apparently someone committed an unforgivable human error and posted Vodafone plans and prices on their official site only to have them removed later. Unfortunately people were watching all that and immediately took some notes.

According to those, the cheapest Vodafone prices start at $69 per month. You get only 250MB of data and the iPhone will cost $189 or $309. The highest plan will cost $169 per month with the iPhone offered for free or for just $89 depending on version. With this top tier plan you will get 1GB of data. And you will get just a 1GB data transfer limit.

How uncool is that? Why not offer the full 5GB data you are offering for $39 with a USB HSDPA modem regularly? Shouldn’t iPhone customers benefit from that limit too? Bad Vodafone!

We’ll be waiting for a proper data correction for these plans which I expect to be made officially official in the upcoming days.

Remember those crappy Canadian 3G iPhone plans from Rogers. After weeks of protests, signed online petitions people started talking about how Apple is going to limit iPhone deliveries to Canadian Apple and Rogers stores. That was probably the sparkle that made Rogers rethink their plans.

3G iPhone Canadian customers must be really happy now. Rogers will be offering a promotional 6GB of data for $30 per month. This plan can be added on top of any iPhone plan you would choose. Just make sure you activate a three year plan before August 31st in order to take advantage of this last minute offer.

Rogers has one more surprise for you. They will start iPhone sales at 8AM on Friday in six Rogers Plus stores in major Canadian cities. And there’s free breakfast to be offered too.
