Camera Phones To Click

Congressman Peter King from New York is doing his best to require cell phone cameras to click when a photo is snapped. The Camera Phone Predator Act was introduced in Congress by King this week, and its sole purpose is, “To require mobile phones containing digital cameras to make a sound when a photograph is taken.” Why would anyone care whether a cell phone camera clicked? According to King, “Congress finds that children and adolescents have been exploited by photographs taken in dressing rooms and public places with the use of a camera phone.”

But the truth is the problem is way more pervasive than that. Many people are photographed all the time without knowing it via cell phones, and never find out until they see some uncomfortable image of themselves on the internet. If passed, people being photographed by strangers would at least hear the warning ‘click’ and presumably have time to see who is taking the photo and report that person to the police.
