The folks out at Wirefly sent me a Blackberry Curve 8900 to review, and I’m glad they did.  This one is a really nice phone–it’s easily on par with the Curve 8350i, and though it’s really very similar to it, it’s also got plenty of great features that make it something special.

The Blackberry Curve 8900 is a candy bar style smartphone with the standard Blackberry trackball, Bluetooth connectivity, alarm clock, calendar, mobile email, mobile web, a 3.2 megapixel camera with automatic 2x focus and video recording, media player, Wi-Fi, two hundred fifty six megs of onboard memory with support for microSD cards, GPS, and a battery that offers five and a half hours of talk time on a single charge.  It also offers access to the relatively new Blackberry App World, which is about what it sounds like, providing access to the various Blackberry applications there are out there.

Seriously, I liked this phone.  It’s got great controls, great sound quality, and a fantastic camera.  I loved the flash on this one–much like the 8350i, it was like a brief shot of a flashlight.  I was amazed to hear one of the ringtones, which sounded a lot like a version of Happy Birthday as done to steel drums.  It was strange, but it sounded pretty good, which balanced out the strangeness nicely.

At any rate, the Blackberry Curve 8900 has a lot to offer, and if you’re looking for a smartphone, this is definitely going to pack in plenty of solid value.
