Australia’s Broadband Speed to Go Up to 100Mbps Nationwide for A$43 BillionBy Chris - 04/08/2009 2:48:46 AM |

Australia‘s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made his “single biggest infrastructure decision” according to him, when he decided to allocate a total of A$43 billion for the creation of a nationwide high speed broadband network. When everything will be finished, about 90% of homes and businesses will get up to 100Mbps speeds via a fiber optic connection, while everyone else should cope with only 12 Mbps from a wireless/satellite connection.
49% of that impressive amount will come from the private sector, while the government will only invest A$4.7 billion initially with A$20 billion coming from a national infrastructure fund and the future sale of bonds. The project will be finished in 7 or 8 years so you might just have to wait a few years to have your Internet connection bumped up to better speeds.
