Who said that only Apple made money off the 3G iPhone? Sure they did good, but so did other people too. And of all the carriers partnering up with Apple for a fix, AT&T should be at the top with the most profits. After all, they have been for more than a year now involved in the whole Apple phone thing.
Here’s what Randall Stephenson, AT&T chairman and CEO, has to say about AT&T’s very successful second quarter:
As we generate sound financial results, AT&T also has taken the lead to innovate and create great solutions for customers. Mobility, broadband connectivity and integrated services that encompass voice, data and video are driving a new world of communications. AT&T is all about deploying and enhancing premier networks and products to deliver this world to both business and consumers.
How about the iPhone?
In the days following our exclusive U.S. launch of this new device, powered by the nation’s fastest 3G wireless network, customer response has been everything we had anticipated and more. This strengthens our wireless business, and it reinforces our positive view of the opportunities ahead for AT&T and the industry.
Q2 of 2008 saw AT&T counting revenues of about $30.9 billion which is almost 5% more than the same period of last year. AT&T have spent about $24.3 billion in the past quarter compared to 24.5 billion of 2007. Their profit was $6.6 billion, or a margin of 21.3% compared to $4.9 billion, or 16.8% last year.
Despite multiple human errors, AT&T remains one of the top mobile carriers in the US, their iPhone being one of the hottest products on the market so far. Looking forward to check out Q3’s numbers. After all in Q3 we have the 3G iPhone rolling in.
