08 Sep 08 Atom-based ASUS N10 netbook announced

ASUS has dropped the Eee label with its latest product, the N10 netbook. Measuring at 10.2 inches, a good 1.3 inches bigger than the EeePC 901, the N10 falls into the more premium ultraportable line of netbooks from ASUS sans the Eee branding. This could be the start of a new line of high-end netbooks from the Korean manufacturer as the specs are a big leap from the affordable netbooks in the Eee line. The N10, supposed to be available in two variants of N10J-A1 and N10J-A2, has a 10.2-inch LED backlit display and employs hybrid graphics with both a GeForce 9300GS 256MB video card and the onboard Intel GMA950 graphics. It is powered by Intel’s new N270 1.6GHz processor aided by up to 2GB of RAM. There’s plenty of space too with 160GB of storage from a 5400 rpm SATA HDD (250 GB in case of N10J-A2). Sounds more like a notebook than a netbook, as the features don’t stop there. The N10 will also boast of an ExpressCard slot, three USB 2.0 ports, one HDMI port, ethernet, an external monitor port in addition to WiFi a/b/g/n wireless connectivity. If that’s impressive, how about a 1.3-megapixel webcam, a fingerprint scanner, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, and 6.5 hours of nonstop usage?

Impressive or not, the ASUS N10 netbook will start selling in Korea this month for a retail price of $749 for the N10J-A1 while its slightly higher-specced counterpart will move for $849.
