21 Sep 09 Asus launches new netbook: Eee 1201N

As if all the Asus netbooks weren’t enough for everyone, they’ve decided to launch one more entitled Eee 1201N. The specifications of the 12010N can be considered good taking in consideration the price, which means that for $500 you get 2GB of memory RAM, an Atom N270 processor at 1.6GHz, and a SATA hard-drive of 250GB.

Sporting a 12-inch screen with an unusual resolution of 1366×768 pixels, the new Asus netbook also comes with WiFi, bluetooth, and an Ethernet port. Other features include a 1.3-megapixel camera, a 6-cell battery, and lastly 11 hours of battery.

    Hmm, I think the unusual resolution will cause some problems with multimedia software or games. So it’s bad decision

    Unusual resolution??? Don’t think so.

    It is kind of unusual, 1360×768 would be normal. I would estimate that it’s probably a misprint; why would they add 6 extra columns of pixels? 1360×768 = 16:9 aspect ratio, which is pretty standard. At any rate, it won’t make a speck of different for video as they are scaled according to your output size in the first place. DVDs are only 1280×720 so even with a normal screen resolution it isn’t going to match perfectly. Most games can adapt to resolution too, and if not, they’ll only be off by 6 pixels, which streched across a 10″ wide screen will be unnoticable.

    @ Kevin,

    FAIL.

    DVD = 720×480

    ‘Nuff said.

    Stephen James is sane enough, NTSC DVDs are 720×480 (PAL/SECAM’s are 720×576, BTW).

    For those who know how to use a calculator, try multiplying 768 by 16 and then divide result by 9, just for curiousity sake.

    C’mon people. NTSC and PAL are just so … yesterday. Think HD. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wide_XGA.
