post Category: Apple, At&T, Mobile News post postJune 19, 2008

With no official news from Apple some people have started to wonder what are the productions costs of the 3G iPhone. Others have started to estimate how much AT&T is paying for every iPhone sold. So far it is rumored that every single new iPhone costs about $100 to make while every one of those handsets will rake in up to $425 for Apple from their carrier partners in the US.

The bill of costs for the earlier model came up to $170. It would be logical for Apple to lower costs for the 3G iPhone as their plan is selling it for less. Is it really selling it for less? I guess that carriers will simply chip in more on this model.

It has been reported (read rumored) that AT&T will pay $325 for every sold iPhone with an extra $100 if the phone was purchased in an Apple store. So what would international carriers pay?

I don’t know if all these numbers are anywhere near the true figures but I do know that Apple is good at selling stuff. Just look at their iTunes store and iPod lines. Why not make more moneys (it’s not a typo, just me trying to emphasize on how much money we’re talking about) from the iPhone sales?

At this rate, the Copy-Paste iPhone will cost $50 to make, Apple is going to receive up to $550 subsidy and it will sell for $129.95 (the 4GB version) with a 42 months AT&T, Verizon and Sprint contract.
