Not that this is breaking news to anyone but Apple is going to make lots of money off the 3G iPhone. And I say this a millionth time (ok I might have said it ten times so far), they will make money because it’s an Apple iPhone, with a great Apple long term marketing plan. The Samsung iPhone will not sell as many handsets. Nor will the HTC iPhones. I’d dare RIM to make as much money from their future Thunder which might be so much better than the second generation iPhone.

Taiwanese Commerical Times has estimated that about 10 million iPhone will be shipping all over the world just in the third qiarter of 2008. They contacted various parts suppliers and probably they have counted all the parts needed to make an iPhone and came up with this number. Considering the fact that the iPhone is going to be simultaneously released on July 11th in 22 countries, considering Russia and China, two great markets that are ready to get involved with Apple, and considering Apple already has contracts with carriers in over 70 countries, the 10 million goal doesn’t seem unattainable. We might expect even more than that.

In a previous interview Steve Jobs said it was time Apple made some of their own parts for the iPhone. I guess he was talking about processors and what not, which means more money for Apple. And considering the new iPhone has been rumored to cost about $100 to make, we should expect this number to go even lower.

For now Apple partners are providing parts for Apple. And these are Infineon, for the main processor, Sharp, manufacturing the LCD panel, Broadcom bringing on the GPS chipset, and last but not least Foxconn whose job is to do all the case construction and finish the general assembly of every unit.

I’d like to see what other single smarphone or device can top this number. And I don’t want you to tell me Nokia will sell a zillion smartphones in Q3. Only if they happen to sell a zillion of E71s
