All The Latest Cell Phone, Gadget and Tech News

Just as rumors had suggested, Apple has gone ahead and unveiled the iPhone 3G’s successor at this year’s WWDC; the iPhone 3GS.
So far we know that this new device will have a 3MP camera which has all sorts of new features like auto focus, auto white balance, and last but not least video capture. That’s right, the iPhone 3GS will be able to capture video at 30fps with audio, something consumers have been asking for since the first iPhone was released.
Of course, the phone is also faster with the S is 3GS presumably standing for speed. This means faster application launches along with faster internet connections.
This is about all we know as of now but we are covering Apple’s WWDC live so be sure to check it out to get the latest updates.
Update: Thanks to our live coverage, we now know that the 16GB iPhone 3GS will cost $199 while the 32GB iPhone 3GS will cost $299 and it will come in only black and white. Furthermore, the iPhone 3G will still be available to consumers for just $99.

A standard needs to be created so all phones from all brands on all networks (including computers with webcams) can video call with each other. (If hardly anyone can talk with each other, like if you could only talk to other iPhone owners, it won’t ever catch on)
Cell networks need to be dramatically improved to allow for anything close to wide-spread usable quality. (people need to just know that video calling will work no matter where they are before they start regularly using it. If it seems spotty, they’ll just forget about it)
Until then it will be an extremely buggy, gimmicky feature that you might use to show off but when it came down to it, would sit idle. They’re BARELY getting MMS standardized between different carriers (even just a few years ago it was big news that Verizon and Sprint could send pictures to each other) and phones and imagine how simple that is compared to live streaming video.

[...] iPhone 3GS owners will not be able to unlock their handset right now but everyone still playing with an iPhone 3G that’s running iPhone 3.0 can now unlock it. The iPhone Dev Team has clear instructions for you so all you have to do is backup your phone and use Ultrasn0w to unlock it: 1. Ensure you have upgraded to iPhone OS 3.0 2. Jailbreak your iPhone 3G using redsn0w or PwnageTool (this will also install Cydia/Icy) 3. Run Cydia or Icy 4. Please add the repo repo666.ultrasn0w.com to Cydia or Icy. That last “o” is actually the number zero “0”! If you use the letter “o” you’ll get an error. 5. Search for ‘ultrasn0w’ in cydia or icy and install ultrasn0w 6. Reboot your iPhone 3G 7. T-Mobile USA users should disable 3G before using ultrasn0w 8. Enjoy [...]
