Ad-supported Amazon Kindle eBooks on the way?

If one of Amazon’s recent patent filings is anything to go by, there are ad-supported Kindle eBooks in the works.

This is by no means a breakthrough filing, but instead may allow publishers to offer their books for a cheaper price or perhaps earn a bit of extra revenue on their already downloaded eBooks.

As you can see from the above diagram, the general outlook looks about the same as that of a normal ad-supported website with banner advertisements on both the top and sides of the content.
