Ever wondered how many cell phone users are out there? It’s estimated that 3.3 billion people own a handset. That’s 49% of the global population and that number is bound to go up!

The International Telecommunications Union which presented this study, further said that mobile subscription rose constantly in Africa and Asia with 39% and 28% per year from 2005 to 2007. India and China increased their total numbers of subscriber with 154 and 143 million.

The global growth is somewhere at 22% for cell phones while fixed lines are loosing the race with less than 1% increase in numbers a year.

The internet is also growing with particular interest to the broadband access. In high-income countries broadband accounts for 66% of the fixed line subscribers while in low-income countries broadband represents only 1%.
