AT&T has filed a lawsuit against Verizon Wireless after Big Red launched that “There’s a map of that” campaign. AT&T alleges that Verizon is misleading customers into thinking that AT&T doesn’t offer coverage in various areas of the U.S. The Trial has been filed in the Federal District Court in Atlanta and while we’ll be waiting for a ruling in favor of either AT&T or Verizon, AT&T has instructed its employees on how to respond to any questions regarding the trial.
Below you’ll find the memo with all the precise instructions:
Channels: COR, DMDR, LD, and NR Internal

Contact: Your ManagerAT&T filed a lawsuit on November 4, 2009 against Verizon’s “There’s a Map for That” advertising campaign. Independent research shows that the maps in the advertisements mislead consumers into believing that we do not offer any wireless service in the vast majority of the country. In fact, AT&T’s 2.5G EDGE network covers 1.75 million square miles of the United States, reaching some 296 million people, roughly the same number reached by Verizon’s network. This network supports popular services like e-mail, surfing the Web, texting, and voice calling, including the activities shown in the Verizon TV advertisements. In addition, our 3G service, the nation’s fastest, is available in more than 9,400 cities and towns.
We filed the lawsuit in Federal District Court in Atlanta and asked that Verizon be prohibited from misleading consumers regarding the scope of our wireless network.
How should I respond to customers who ask about the lawsuit?

We published a story yesterday telling you about T-Mobile’s sudden outage which affected a lot of people. Although T-Mo restored all the services, that wasn’t done almost immediately despite the company’s quick response. And today we found out what caused the issue. It looks like a software error was to blame. That’s why thousands of T-Mobile customers saw dropped calls and busy tones despite having very good signal from the towers. Here’s what T-Mobile had to say about the outage:
On Tuesday, some T-Mobile customers may have experienced service disruptions impacting voice and messaging services. We restored full service to all affected customers later in the day. After investigating the cause, we have determined that a backend system software error had generated abnormal congestion on the network. T-Mobile has since implemented additional measures to help prevent this from happening in the future. We again apologize to those customers who were affected and may have been inconvenienced.
This certainly doesn’t look good on T-Mobile especially considering the recent Sidekick troubles. What about you? Is you T-Mobile phone working properly again?

Apple’s App Store has established yet another record. We’ve seen the store reach one billion downloads followed quickly by the two million mark. And now the App Store has reached another remarkable number. The store houses at this time 100,000 applications which is a record in the business and now the number has been officially recognized by Apple. Everyone else is trailing way back and it will be almost impossible for the App Store to be surpassed by any other similar adventure. We’re probably going to see even more records get established as there are more than 34 million iPhones out there, not to mention the iPod touches sold so far by Cupertino. We’ve showed you lots of App Store apps here and there are many more interesting apps to show you, so stay tuned. The third billion download is probably just around the corner.
What’s your favorite iPhone app?

The fact that T-Mobile wants to upgrade its network to the next level is well known already but it looks like the company has already started deploying its brand new 7.2Mbps HSPA network. People are reporting that T-Mobile already has deployed HSPA in various markets. The rollout is not official yet but we’re expecting T-Mobile to make it available by the end of the year. If you’re around New York or Chicago, go ahead and test your T-Mobile connection and tell us more about it. Speeds between 3.80Mbps and 5.40Mbps have been reported so T-Mobile is definitely testing the new network as we speak.

We talked about the Eee Keyboard all year long while waiting for Asus to make it official. Well guess what, folks, it’s still not available. The computer has been announced and then delayed at least a couple of times, and just when we thought we might actually see it in action we hear that the Eee Keyboard is being revised. Apparently the 5-inch resistive touchscreen panel is not good anymore and a capacitive touchscreen display will replace it. The new panel should offer a better touch experience as it will resemble the one found on various smartphones out there, including the iPhone.
The Eee Keyboard will probably not be available before Christmas so you can go ahead and scratch it off your letter for Santa.

Now here’s something cool that would find a nice home in any OS fan boy’s collection — What you see above are real life calculator concepts that mimic the virtual ones found in both Mac OS X and Windows. The Mintpass designer has done a great job with these showing off their virtual counterparts in the bottom corners of the images.
Would these ever hit retail? Most likely not because if they did the manufacturers would be looking at a hefty lawsuit. But hell, I’d buy one.

Before you read on please make note that this is only a rumor and has not been confirmed in any way shape or form — BGR brings us news that AT&T and Apple are pondering whether or not to launch an 8GB iPhone 3GS for $99 that would be presumably replace the current $99 iPhone 3G.
Like I said, there isn’t very much evidence to back this up but if this goes down it would reportedly be a move to combat the DROID handsets popping up on Verizon.

Earlier today we let you know that the BlackBerry 8530 would be hitting Verizon on November 20th and now we have news of the same device hitting Sprint.
There wasn’t an exact release date announced but a Sprint spokesperson said that it will be out relatively soon with EV-DO and WiFI built-it. Of course, since there was no release date announcement there was no price but we have a hunch that it will be right around the $99 that Verizon is charging with a 2-year contract and $100 mail-in rebate.

This Apple contains the remastered Beatles catalog that has MP3 and FLAC versions of 14 stereo titles, as well as 13 mini-documentary films about the albums, original replications of the original UK album art, rare photos, and liner notes. The 16GB device is shaped like an apple because it is Apple corps that is the Beatles music publisher.
This Beatles USB catalog will be released in North America on December 8th, and will cost $279.99.

This ESP is nothing mystical, but the EcoRoutes ESP is a module made for Nuvi navigation devices. It connects to the vechicles OBD-II diagnostics port, and “gathers information about your vehicle’s performance and relays that info via a Bluetooth data connection to your Garmin Nuvi GPS device atop your dashboard”. It is fully customizable with the Nuvi’s touchscreen, and can monitor fuel economy and emissions data in real-time.
There is no word on when Garmin’s ESP unit for the Nuvi will be available, but there should be more information about it at CES 2010 in January. I think I’ll stop by the booth to see how it is doing.
