As we told you earlier this year, Zer01 Mobile has been getting ready for a nationwide launch in July. In case you forgot let me refresh your memory! Zer01 Mobile is going to bring you unlimited nationwide voice and data and even international unlimited calling.
In order to take advantage of all those unlimited calls and data you will have to install custom software on your phone. Should you choose to purchase a new phone from Zer01, that option is available too. Why do we need custom software installed on the phones? Zer01 will use data networks for any kind of connectivity. That means your call will not drop even if the coverage of your chosen network isn’t that great as the software uses the data connection for making and receiving calls.
Not yet convinced? Zer01 Mobile won’t force you into any new contract. Their offers work as prepaid services. You’ll end up paying $69.99 per month for all the unlimited phone calls, messaging and Internet browsing and an additional $10 for unlimited international calls. Whenever you choose to stop you’ll be able to do so! If you own a BlackBerry or Android phone you’ll have to wait a while until you can get the service since Zer01 Mobile will only work on Windows Mobile phones right now. But what do you say? Anxious to try something new?

Earlier today we told you that the Pre might be soon launched in the UK. It seems we were right and the phone is indeed going to be available to UK customers. Now we know that O2 is the carrier that’s bringing the Pre in Europe. We were expecting the Pre to be sold by O2 especially since Telefonica has an exclusivity deal with Palm for the Pre. We have no details about future O2 plans for the Pre but we should get them soon enough. O2 will carry both the iPhone 3GS and the Palm Pre so we expect similar pricing and monthly fees. The question still remains though, which phone would you pick?

The Pre is an amazing phone and we keep discovering stuff about it. One of them is the Landscape email mode which is currently hidden from the eyes of average Pre users. But some of those users are smart enough to discover the unlock key.
In case you too want to access your email in landscape mode then you have to enter “RocknRollHax” on the keyboard. You’ll have to enter the unlock code exactly as written here every time you access the email application but at least you’ll have that landscape mode activated every time. You’ll have to keep using the phone at least until Palm will make this feature official.

NEC have announced a new netbook, the LaVie Light Lui Mobile. It is an Atom N280 device with the regular 10.1-inch 1024 x 600 display. There is not much to distinguish this from the range of other Atom netbooks. Storage is 160GB while RAM is 1GB, and there is both Bluetooth 2.1+EDR and WiFi b/g. A 1.3-megapixel webcam and microphone are integrated, and battery life is approximated at up to 8.5hrs.

6 tips for extending the battery life of your cell phone:
- Turn-off wireless connection like Wi-Fi if you are not using them. Many of us of tend to leave Wi-Fi on even in the areas where there is no Wi-Fi network.
- Turn off the 3G feature if you don’t use it or if there is no 3G service provided.
- Use vibrating alert in meetings or in the library, for instance, otherwise turn it off because it is a power hungry feature. Furthermore, switch off keypad tones and reduce ringing volume if you are not in a loud environment.
- Reduce screen brightness to the lowest level possible where you can still see things on the screen clearly, displays use a lot of power to illuminate.
- Keep your phone screen as simple as possible, screensavers and animated wallpapers use up battery power to stay running. Better yet, turn off screensavers and stick to a simple wallpaper.
- Terminate applications as soon as you complete work on them. To do this, press the menu key and end all the applications that you do not need.

Well sure it’s a Microsoft phone you’ll say, it will run some sort of Windows Mobile version on it! That’s true but what I mean is that the phone appears to be Microsoft-branded. Could this Pink smartphone project be the first Microsoft phone? Microsoft denied more than once that it’s working on an own mobile device but what if that changed?
Sure maybe Microsoft will not call it a Zune phone in which case the company was awfully right when declaring that no Zune phone is going to be created soon. The Pink phone is said to run on Windows Mobile 7 and we can expect some sort of custom UI on top of the regular OS. Pink is also said to be a Sidekick-like phone and it could be manufactured by Sharp or Motorola. Unfortunately we don’t have any hot details about it!
A lot of questions come to mind but we shall leave them unanswered for now. We’ll be waiting for someone to leak that Pink-related ad campaign that Microsoft is reportedly working on.

Inkia International have revealed their latest 5-inch and 7-inch OEM MID models, each offering Intel Atom processors, 800 x 480 touchscreens and up to 32GB SSDs. The 5-inch model has a choice of Atom Z510, Z520 or Z530 processors, each with the US15W chipset, and measures 6.2 x 3.7 x 0.86 inches; weighing 12.3oz. The 7-inch version has a 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor with the 945GSE chipset, measures 8.0 x 5.1 x 0.81 inches and weighs 1.5lbs.
Each has integrated WiFi, 3G, Bluetooth and GPS, as well as a 0.3-megapixel webcam; the smaller adds a 3.2-megapixel camera, stereo speakers and a microSD card slot, while the larger instead has an SD/MMC card slot, 10/100 ethernet and two USB 2.0 ports. It is likely that Inkia are looking for other firms to acquire one or both of the MIDs and rebrand them, however we may never see either of these released in the US or Europe.

One of the many features of iPhones and the iPod Touch is to accommodate video streams. And today, a church will become the first group to experiment on streaming their services via video. The New Hope church thus becomes the first non-profit group to feature such a service, something that is cheered on by many of New Hope’s church attendees.
“Typically, churches are years behind other organizations when it comes to technology and innovation. We have tried to reverse that trend and pioneer new ways to spread the Gospel using the most current tools available,” explains New Hope’s Technology and Innovations Director, Michael Sharpe. “We don’t mind the long hours and stress that comes with innovating because we know that if we can come up with something useful, it can be used by other churches around the world.”
All of this was made possible with the inclusion of HTTP live streaming in Apple’s iPhone 3.0 software. The streams will be available via their website starting July 4. The live stream requires an iPhone or iPod touch with the 3.0 software update and an active Internet connection.

A few days ago we heard that Sprint might launch the Tour only on July 20 which was 8 days too late compared to Verizon’s schedule for this BlackBerry. But now it appears that Sprint has done everything in its power to launch the latest BlackBerry on the very same day Big Red is also launching it. The Tour is coming from Sprint on July 12 too. The smartphone will be available for $199 after rebates and with a contract. So what will you choose folks? Sprint or Verizon?

The most important cell phone makers out there have already announced 12-megapixel camera phones or are on the verge of doing so. We already know that Samsung, LG or Sony Ericsson will offer their customers a 12-megapixel shooter and Nokia will not want to miss any of that action.
The Finnish company will launch a 12-megapixel camera phone by the end of the year. There’s no official news from Nokia about the new phone but the rumors say it will feature a Carl Zeiss lens capable of optical zoom. That optical zoom will definitely convince some people to pick this 12-megapixel camera phone over that the competition has to offer.

A GSM Palm Pre has been spotted in Vietnam recently which led many people to believe that the handset must be on its way towards various GSM markets. One of them is the UK and from the looks of it, we might see the phone arrive in the UK sometime next week.
Rumors point to a July 7 launch but, as always, there’s nothing official about it. We’ll have to wait until next Tuesday to find out more about Palm’s intentions in the UK. Should we assume that other Europeans carriers are planning to launch the phone in the following months? In the mean time we wouldn’t mind getting leaked photos and details about the UK version of the Pre!

Besides Orange UK it seems that Orange Spain is also going to sell the HTC Hero soon. And we should safely assume that Orange will consider bring the Hero to other markets too. In the mean time the phone will be available to Spanish customers for 99 Euro when purchased with a monthly plan of at least 29 Euro. In case you’re going to pre-order it online, you can get the phone for just 89 Euro. The Hero will be available in Orange stores sometime next week and in case you don’t want a new agreement you’ll be able to get the newest HTC Android phone for somewhere around 500 Euro. What do you think?
