Motorola Sholes Android Phone Headed to Verizon

|

Motorola's interest in Android devices is well known and we have another candidate rumored to be available from Verizon soon. The Motorola Sholes is the Android phone in question and if you're interested in unofficial features then you should know this handset will offer you a 3.7-inch touchscreen, CDMA, EV-DO Rev A support, 512MB of storage, 256MB of RAM, microSD and microSDHC support for up to 16GB, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, GPS, USB and WiFi. Verizon should launch it sometime so you'll have to wait a while if you have just fallen in love with it.

Motorola Morrison spotted at FCC

|

We've been hearing about the fabled Motorola Morrison for some time now but without any official word we were left in the dark in terms of a price point and release date.

Luckily, thanks to the FCC, we now know that the phone is at least a bit closer to hitting North American carriers. Other than a few basic specs, make note that T-Mobile's 3G bands are prominently displayed in the above screen capture. Our source also confirms that the handset will be running Android and have WiFi.

A coincidence? Probably not, expect this phone on T-Mobile, at some point in the near future.

That's where you get to choose your future carrier. So what carrier will it be? The Curve 8520 aka the Gemini or the Curve 8530 aka the Aries?

BlackBerry Curve 8520 to be Available for $50 from Walmart

|

In case you think T-Mobile is charging way too much for a device that doesn't do 3G and comes with only a 2-megapixel camera then you should go to Walmart to purchase your BlackBerry Curve 8520 Gemini. Walmart will offer this new Berry for just $48.88 (ok, almost $50) which is a much better price than T-Mobile's $129.99 tag.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 officially announced

|

We've been hearing about this handset for a long time but it seems RIM has finally decided its time to let the BlackBerry Curve 8520 out of the bag.

This phone will officially feature a 320 x 240 resolution display, 2MP camera with video capture, WiFi, a track pad in place of the iconic track ball and the ability to sync up with Macs right out of the box. This is probably thanks to the Mac version of BlackBerry Desktop Manager that we heard about not too long ago.

Better yet, RIM has also us know that those rumors of the 8520 coming to T-Mobile were true as the phone will officially drop on said carrier August 5th for $129.99.

Android Donut Already Out?

|

The next Android update is going to be referred to as the Donut and it looks like Google is thoroughly working on it. While there's nothing official about it, it's said that Donut will bring you multitouch support, universal search, automated backups, text-to-speech features, a new camera application and a general improved performance.

But you know what's even more interesting? It looks like Donut brings in CDMA support which must mean Sprint is getting an Android phone after all. Now we need good old Google to confirm all these and we're especially interested to see if the Hero is going to be indeed Sprint's first Android smartphone. What do you think?

LG GW620 to Run on Android?

|

LG hasn't announced yet its first Android device but it looks like we might have a name for you. Apparently the GW620 Eve is LG's first device ready to run on Android. Of course LG isn't officially commenting on the matter so we'll have to wait a while for it. Rumored specs of the Eve are an HVGA touchscreen display, a full-QWERTY keypad, WiFi, UMTS and WiFi connectivity and an Android browser. It's this hint that ruined the surprise and made everyone realize that the Eve could be the first Android device available. Should we expect T-Mobile to just grab it and launch it soon?

Samsung S9110 watchphone

|

I always thought that if there was one wristphone that could change my mind about the whole idea, it would be LG's GD910. But seems like I was wrong as Samsung has now announced the S9110 wristphone, which sounds like a better deal than the yet-to-be released GD910. The S9110 features a 1.76-inch 262k color touchscreen display, has 40MB of internal memory (no word on expansion), Bluetooth 2.1, speakerphone, an mp3 player, and Outlook email sync. Sounds like a great deal for a watchphone right? Yeah, it does, but Samsung has gone one more step ahead and squeezed all this into a body that is just 11.98 mm thick, making this, according to the company, the world's thinnest touchscreen cellphone. Available in France later this month at a price of €450 (approx. $639).

Nokia 6760 Slide for Europe

|

Nokia has revealed that what is the Nokia Surge for the US will go to Europe and the rest of the world as the Nokia 6760 Slide. The repacked 6760 Slide actually has one major difference compared to the Surge, although with QWERTY keypads, avid SMS/email users are still the focus on both the devices. Apart from the same 2.4 inch QVGA display, microSD support, Bluetooth, A-GPS, FM radio with RDS, and Symbian S60 3.2 release operating system, the Slide features a 3.2 megapixel camera (compared to the 2mpx lens on the Surge) and European 3G connectivity with support for GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and HSDPA 2100 networks. The Nokia 6760 Slide will be available in the third quarter of this year across Europe and Asia at a price of 199 Euros (about $285).

Samsung Comeback available now on T-Mobile

|

T-Mobile and Samsung have now announced that the Comeback, a QWERTY clamshell that we heard about not more than a week ago, is available starting today. The Samsung Comeback (SGH-t559) will come as a blessing to anyone who has suffered sore thumbs because of furious typing on minuscule keys, with its slide-flip QWERTY keypad, and easy access to social networking, email, and messaging. There's also T9 predictive text and auto word completion, which makes it a perfect device to type on and on. The handset supports T-Mobile's 3G network, has a basic 2 megapixel snapper for pictures and videos on the go, and a microSD slot which supports up to 16GB cards. Not much there to go on as a whole, but if you are a textual junkie, Comeback sounds like a great fix. Available now on T-Mobile for $129.99 on a two-year contract.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X3 Rachael Comes with Features

|

After we've seen the X2 earlier today, now we're going to take a closer look at the Sony Ericsson's Xperia X3 aka Rachael. The first Sony Ericsson Android phone has some specs available now so let's see them:

  • Quad-band GSM connectivity (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)

  • Dual-band 3G (900/2100 MHz) with HSDPA 10Mbps and HSUPA 2Mbps

  • 4 inches touchscreen display with 800 x 400 pixels

  • WiFi IEEE 802.11g

  • A-GPS

  • Bluetooth 2.1

  • 3.5mm audio jack

  • E-mail (POP3, IMAP4, SMTP, MS Exchange)

  • MiniUSB

  • MicroSDHC card support

Should we assume that Sony Ericsson has purposely leaked the Sony X2 and Sony X3 again? Is the company going to announce them soon? After all we were waiting for this announcement a few weeks ago but it never came!

Motorola A45 Murano

|

We haven't gotten to see too many A series cellphones from Motorola, except for the A455, which was released last month on Verizon Wireless. We now have news of a new handset in that segment, the A45 Murano, which surfaced on a Brazilian website recently. We don't have many details on this pudgy guy as of now, but what we do know is that the A45 is a non-3G, QWERTY-toting (pretty obvious from the picture of course) messaging phone, that should feel right at home among Motorola's other low-end messaging phones such as the QA1 or even the A455. There is also a 2-megapixel camera tucked in, but that's all the dirt we have on this new entrant. We will get you the info on it as it emerges, so don't go nowhere!

HTC Leo specs leaked, confirms Snapdragon CPU

|

Contrary to the earlier rumors that the HTC Leo would be a flip phone, news has now surfaced that the forthcoming HTC handset might in fact carry a regular monoblock form factor, like the iPhone or HTC's own Touch HD. A full spec sheet was recently unearthed on ai.rs blog, which, while confirming the Snapdragon CPU, also revealed:

  • 4.3 inch WVGA (480 x 800) capacitive touchscreen display

  • 5MP autofocus camera with dual LED flash

  • Quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity and dual-band HSDPA connectivity (900/2100 MHz)

  • WiFi

  • GPS, A-GPS

  • Accelerometer with light & proximity sensors

  • 3.5mm headset jack

  • 1GHz MSM 8250 Snapdragon CPU with 512MB flash memory, 320MB RAM

  • MicroSD card support

  • 1230 mAh battery

  • 121 x 67 x 11 millimeters

From the looks of it, the Leo is going to be one fast (and big) cellphone, but nothing is concrete right now including its name (as Leo is just the codename) until HTC thinks it's the right to reveal so, which we hope will happen pretty soon.

Samsung S5230 branded by Zadig and Voltaire

|

The Samsung Star S5230 or the Player One is a great featurephone, but as we all know, in France, home to the fashion capital of the world, great features just won't do, right? So, to dress things up a little, Samsung joined forces with the popular French fashion house, Zadig and Voltaire, and the result is something that the French can tote around without being ostracized. The Z&V version of the S5230 boasts of a full black metal finish with purple contours, a pair of silver wings above the display, and a crown on the navigation key (trademarks of Z&V). No info on pricing or availability, but don't have hopes to see this outside of France anytime soon.

LG's GD910 watch-phone proceeds through FCC

|

Ever since we first heard of LG's GD910 watch-phone back in December of last year, we've been wondering when we would actually see it hit the North American market, if ever.

Well today, we get a ray of hope shined on the device as it has recenelty made its was through the FCC and is (almost) ready to hit North American shelves. For those of you who have trouble keeping track of your phone, this one's for you as it straps to your wrist effectively making it impossible to lose, if you never take it off that is.

Now that we've seen the FCC shots all we need to hear of is a carrier. AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile? You guys listening?

Sony Ericsson C905a and W518a Walkman Available from AT&T

|

AT&T has two new Sony Ericsson available for you, the C905a 8.1-megapixel camera phone and the W518a Walkman. We've already covered these Sony Ericsson handsets and those of you interested in a new camera phone or a Walkman handset can now head to AT&T and purchase their next phone. The C905a is available for $179.99 after rebates and with a 2-year contract and the W518a is now available for $49.99 after rebates and a 2-year contract. So what will it be boys and girls?

LG LX290 Available from Sprint

|

A new phone is available from Sprint. The LX290 from LG is ready for the limelight but will it make an impression? Well let's see what it will offer us and then we'll be ready to offer you an objective conclusion!

The LX290 will offer you a 1.3-megapixel camera with 2x digital zoom, Picture Messaging, a 2.5mm headset jack, NFL Mobile Live, GPS with Sprint Navigaton, a 1.33 x 1.77 inches QVGA TFT screen and a battery that's going to offer you up to 6 hours of continuous talk time.

The verdict? It doesn't look so good folks. The LG LX290 is guilty of not standing out from any crowd. You shouldn't get it, especially as it's probably too expensive at $29.99 after mail-in rebate on a 2-year contract from Sprint. You'd be better off with a refurbished $79 iPhone 3G. Objectively speaking, of course!

Nokia's Surge coming to AT&T July 19th

|

You know, we could have waited till August to feast our eyes on the Chocolate successor, and if LG had been able to keep this promotional video under wraps for just a few more days, they could have had the grand opening that they had planned for. The authenticity of the above video is debatable, but the video itself looks professional enough and confirms many of the features that we heard about a while back and more. According to the promo, the BL40, the fourth cellphone in LG's Black Label series, will have a huge 4-inch (not 3 inches like we heard the last time) touchscreen display that is not only capable of 800x345 pixel resolution and a 21:9 aspect ratio, but can do multi-touch too. Other rumored features like a 5-megapixel camera, HSDPA 7.2Mbps support, and WiFi are all accounted for and the Flash-based 3D interface looks like a joy to touch through. A worthy iPhone competitor or not, the BL40 sure looks like a great heir to the ever popular LG Chocolate. Watch the video above and tell us if you think the same too!

LG GC990 Louvre Makes an Appearance

|

LG has its very own 12-megapixel phone. The LG GC990 Louvre is going to be available at some point in the future but it has decided to make an appearance. The phone will offer you neat specs like a 12.1-megapixel shooter, a Schneider-Kreuznach lens, touch-focus features, a 3.2-inch 16:9 touchscreen display, DNLA, TV-Out, XviD and DivX playback, Bluetooth connectivity, aGPS and WiFi connectivity. In other words, the GC990 is a great camera that doubles as a phone. It gets even better! The Louvre can handle ISO of up to 3200 for images and it can record video up to 720p at 30fps. Have we gotten you all excited about it? So now we need some prices and arrival dates! What do you say LG?

Nokia 3720 Classic

|

Nokia has officially announced the 3720 Classic. As we have already seen last week this phone can handle quite a lot. It is waterproof, dustproof and shock resistant. The 3720 is made of very durable materials and the interior is sealed tight so nothing can interfere with the electronics inside.

Markku Suomi, vice president, Connect devices said:

Whether using it at the beach or in a dusty construction site, the Nokia 3720 classic has been specifically engineered to withstand the splashes, bumps and drops that come with the terrain. While the Nokia 3720 classic is tough on the outside, it is equally functional on the inside - a perfect choice for people who want a long-lasting and reliable mobile phone for any environment.

The phone will come with less than remarkable features like a 2.2-inch display, a 2-megapixel camera, a 1GB microSD card, preloaded Nokia Maps, a long-lasting battery and a LED flashlight. But then again this phone is made to withstand outrageous conditions so smartphone-like features will not be found in the 3720 Classic.

The phone will be available for around $175 when it will begin shipping this summer. That's the full, unsubsidized price so you will probably get it for a lot less.

Verizon to Launch Samsung Glyde 2

|

Verizon will launch a new Samsung handset soon, the Glyde 2. The phone hasn't been officially unveiled yet but someone managed to snatch a picture of the Glyde 2 with Verizon's logo all over it. We're looking forward for some leaked specs too as we don't have any idea what this Glyde 2 has to offer. According to rumors we can expect the phone to have an impressive AMOLED screen, a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and Samsung's TouchWiz UI. What do you say Samsung? Verizon? Anyone willing to tell us more?

Sony Ericsson W350 Twiggy Walkman Phone

|

A few months ago we saw the Sony Ericsson Twiggy Walkman phone get leaked and today we see it appear in pictures again. There's no news about Twiggy's future. People say the phone was cancelled so we definitely have to wait and see what the company has in mind regarding this Walkman phone. The phone comes with an unnecessary flip cover which lets you control the music. Well at least it lets you play and pause it when you like as there aren't any other touch friendly buttons on it. The phone also sports a 3.2 camera worthy of your attention but other than that we have no specific info about the other features of the W350. So if the Twiggy is really cancelled, what other Walkman phones is Sony Ericsson working on?
