iPhone Firmware 1.1.1 Released with Surprising Fixes

|

iphonesimfree-unlock-sm.jpgApple has just released the iPhone's Firmware Update 1.1.1. But users beware(at least those illegitimate ones), the Firmware update has some unexpected fixes. The update includes the iTunes Wireless Store, for those legit users, but if you are one of those who unlocked the phone, take note that the firmware may make your iPhone unusable.

The iPhone Dev Team, infamous for their iPhone unlocking software, conducted several hours of testing and found out that the update does the following:

• The update will work ok in iPhones with no modification.
• The update will work ok in iPhones with Installer.app (although it gets wiped out; the apps seem to remain in the iPhone, but they won't appear in your screen).
• The update will work ok in unlocked iPhones, but it will return your iPhone to the activation screen. From there, no activation is possible. The iPhone doesn't get bricked but —as expected— so if you want to keep using it, don't update your iPhone.
• This has been confirmed with both anySIM and iPhone Sim Free.
• "Third-party applications won't work after the update" (confirmed by Dev Team.)
• "Firmware 1.1.1. relocks iPhone properly" (confirmed by Dev Team.)
• Unlocked iPhones updated to 1.1.1 will work with legit AT&T cards (confirmed by Natetrue)

Oh well, the most probable thing to do then is for the Dev Team to update their unlocking software. I mean, they already did it right? So why not do it again? If Apple has version 1.1.1, then the Dev Team could come up with a software patch to unlock version 1.1.1.

NEC.jpg
Now, you can get your DNA analyzed just about anywhere. NEC Corporation and Aida Engineering has developed a briefcase-sized DNA analysis system that allows police to perform comprehensive DNA testing at crime scenes in as little as 25 minutes. NEC is calling the device the world’s first portable all-in-one DNA analysis system able to handle all DNA testing processes from extraction to analysis.

Now, gone will be the days when taking a complete DNA test takes about one day. NEC’s new portable system, designed specifically for law enforcement officials and planned for release in 2008, can do it in approximately 25 minutes.

The system will be exhibited at the 18th International Symposium on Human Identification scheduled for October 1 to 4 in Los Angeles, and at a meeting of the Japanese Association of Sociology of Law scheduled for November 8 in Tokyo.

Sony Walkman NW-A919 Touch Screen Player

|
A919.jpg
Pretty cool picture, wouldn't you agree? This is one of the latest Walkman from Sony, NW- A919. But if you don't live in Japan, then there's no point in using this device. It only has a 1Seg tuner, not DMB, DVB-H, or Flo. The Sony player holds up to 16GB of flash memory and a 2.4-inch, 320 x 240 pixel display.

The device measures approximately 86.8 × 48 × 12.3-mm and still supports ATRAC in addition to non-DRMed WMA and AAC, MP3, and linear PCM audio playback with SonicStage doing the sync work back to your PC.

Rounding things out are an FM tuner, direct encoding from your CD/MD player, clear audio noise canceling headphones, and a battery capable of juicing up to 6 hours of television or 36 hours of audio. The premium NW-A919/BI (pictured) will sell in November for ¥47,800 while a 4GB NW-A916 should pop for about ¥30,000 ($9).

The new system also comes with a 2.0MP camera in place of the 151's 1.3MP, plus a fingerprint reader. Oddly enough, the 15.4" screen's resolution is down a tad: the 151 had 1680x1200, while the 152 has 1680x1050. It also weighs more: 7 lbs, instead of the 151's 6lbs.

Naturally, the 152 supports DirectX 10 and has NVIDIA's GeForce 8600GT 512MB graphics card.

  • Vonage to pay Sprint $69.5 million in patent case

    |

vonage_logo.bmpIn a surprising twist of events, Vonage, a publicly held commercial voice over IP (VoIP) network and SIP company that provides telephone service via a broadband connection, was ordered to pay $69.5 million in damages to Sprint when a federal jury found the company had infringed on six patents held by Sprint Nextel.

In 2005, Sprint sued Vonage for allegedly infringing seven patents from Sprint that dealt with connecting Internet phone calls. Vonage denied the claims and argued that Sprint's patents shouldn't have been approved in the first place. However, after the verdict recently released, Vonage will appeal the verdict and will try to develop workarounds that don't infringe on Sprint's patents.

This is the latest in a series of legal setbacks the voice over Internet Protocol provider has faced this year. In March, a jury in Virginia found Vonage had infringed on three patents held by Verizon Communications. And the court ordered Vonage to pay $58 million in damages, plus 5.5 percent in royalties on future revenue earned while it was infringing on the patents. Vonage is currently appealing the decision.

    sony-ericsson-w890i-walkman-prototype.jpg
Pictures of a new phone, which is probably going to be the successor of Sony Ericsson's W880i, has just surfaced. The phone, to be named as the Sony Ericsson W890i Walkman features a 3.2 megapixel camera with a GPRS, UMTS and bluetooth connectivity. In addition, it has an FM Radio and is bundled with a 1GB memory stick micro M2 included.

The pictures that have surfaced looked real enough and does not look as if its a hoax. However, these details are not verified as of the moment so we'll just have to wait and see.

    |

    RoverBook Voyager V553 Notebook

    |

pic2.gifRoverBook Voyager V553 is specifically designed for office use. However, with its new additional features, it is ready to compete with other domestic high-end laptops. In addition, it can store most of your valuable files with its 160GB SATA HDD. The notebook also comes in with multimedia capabilities. It comes with an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GS 256MB video card, which is more than enough for those gamers out there. Lastly, it incorporates a 5-in-1 card reader that is compatible with (SD/MMC/MS/MS Pro) flash cards.

    Sony 300x CompactFlash Cards

    |

Sony Europe’s Recording Media & Energy has announced the launched of three high speed CompactFlash cards to meet the capacity and speed demands of professional D-SLR photographers and ambitious amateur photographers. The new Sony CompactFlash 300x card, which complement the existing line-up of 66x and 133x cards, will be available with capacities of 2GB, 4GB and 8GB. They will be branded as part of Sony’s Alpha D-SLR camera system.

The high speed CompactFlash 300x cards allow UDMA-enabled D-SLR digital camera users to record more frames per second in continuous advance shooting mode and to transfer their images to the PC very rapidly to make room for new photographic projects. An 8GB CompactFlash card can hold up to 2,000 JPEG photos taken in 12 Megapixel resolution in the ‘Standard’ image setting, or up to 1,363 photos in ‘Fine’ mode. Even if both RAW and JPEG image data are recorded, the 8GB card offers enough space for more than 313 digital photos.

1189437934822.jpgThe Sony CompactFlash cards are compatible with a wide range of products featuring a CompactFlash slot, including many D-SLR Cameras, many digital cameras, printers and other imaging and computer peripherals. Many PCs feature built-in CompactFlash slots as standard, while there are adaptors and card readers available on the market to allow users to access and transfer their data onto CompactFlash cards using any PC or laptop.

The new Sony CompactFlash 300x cards will be available from October 2007.

Sidekick LX Coming in Blue and Brown

    |
    ht3logo.gif
The new Sidekick LX will now come in differenct colors. It has just been confirmed that the guys at Danger/T-Mobile are apparently taking after Microsoft and are offering the Sidekick LX in colors that reminds us of the Zune.

Not only will the Sidekick be available in blue and black colors, it will also come in brown and possibly a white one at that. One surprising thing to note from the pictures is that T-Mobile’s system says there’s a street date of 10-21-2007. One can guess that this means that T-Mobile stores will have the device on the 21st. So bribery and sweet-talking an employee just might get you a sneak peak.

There will also be LEDs around the body of the device that flash with alerts.
